    The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) is an independent National Human Rights Institution created by Article 59 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and established by the Government of Kenya through an Act of Parliament (the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights Act, 2011) and under the United Nations Paris Principles

    Gross Salary:
    Kshs. 141,950


    Job purpose:


    This position is responsible for implementation of policies, procedures, plans, strategies, standards and guidelines relating to the functions of the Legal Services.


    Key Responsibilities:

    Attending Court both on behalf of the Commission where it is sued as a corporate entity and petitioners complaining to the Commission alleging violations of human rights.

    Drafting contracts/agreements for goods and services on behalf of the Commission.
    Preparation and filing of pleadings for and on behalf of the Commission.
    Drafting and reviewing legal instruments and policy documents on behalf of the Commission.
    Undertaking legal research.
    Identifying legal and compliance risks.
    Preparing relevant legal opinions.
    Support the Implementation of performance targets and work plans for the evaluation and monitoring of staff performance.
    Assist in coaching and mentoring staff to provide guidance in career development and growth

    Requirements
    Skills, Experience and Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Law from a recognized university and a Post graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law
    Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
    Valid Practicing certificate
    3 years relevant experience
    Good research, report writing and presentation skills
    Demonstrable knowledge in national, regional and international human rights principles and standards
    Demonstrable knowledge in advocacy campaigns or monitoring
    Excellent IT skills, with working knowledge for the various packages
    Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results in the last 3 years
    Meet the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution on leadership and integrity
