    ABOUT THE COMPANY

    HIAS Africa delivers holistic protection to refugees and other forced migrants at heightened risk in Africa, through direct assistance, capacity building and advocacy in partnership with governments, other entities and beneficiaries.

    JOB SUMMARY

    HIAS is looking to recruit a part-time counseling psychologist who will assist in the provision of counseling and other psychotherapeutic interventions to vulnerable and at-risk refugee clients, including those who have undergone emotional and psychological distress as well as those with mental health challenges impairing their normal functioning.QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:A Degree in Counseling Psychology from a recognized universityHave at least 1 year of Counselling experience. Experience working with refugees will be an added advantageExperience in trauma counsellingIdeal candidate should have a keen awareness and a good knowledge of psychosocial issues and the complexities of working on these issuesStrong analytical and report writing skills and proven ability to conduct psychological assessmentsGood team player with excellent cross-cultural interpersonal skillsProactive and able to work under minimal supervision while exercising diplomacy, flexibility and assertivenessAbility to confront and discuss sensitive issues with respect and able to uphold high standards of confidentialityStrong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office.Knowledge of Accountability to Affected Population.Knowledge in PSEA and Anti-Fraud.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Provide individual and group counseling services and other short term therapeutic services to refugees referred to the field office and keep continuous counseling notesConduct psychological assessments and Mental Status Examinations, preparing and submitting the reports to the Center Coordinator.Conduct psychosocial counselling to refugees experiencing various forms of trauma while observing the highest levels of confidentiality and professional ethics and etiquetteEnsure appropriate psychosocial assessment and diagnosis of all the therapeutic cases are in line with the World Health Organization (WHO) Mental Health AtlasFollow up, monitor all referral cases, and ensure timely turnaround of assessment reports and other interventionsEnsure follow up and monitoring of all referral cases and ensure timely turnaround of assessment reports and other interventions.Coordinate outdoor activities during therapeutic day out.Assist protection officers in organizing and mobilizing for committee meetings, dialogues and other activities to address protection issuesAssist in preparation of timely, quality and comprehensive reports for work donePerform other related duties as assigned
