About John Arwa:

As a knowledgeable and forward-thinking professional, I am well-versed in the latest developments and opportunities within the fields of commercial and industrial solar and e-mobility infrastructure. With a passion for sustainability and innovation, I am driven to help businesses and communities embrace clean energy solutions that benefit both their bottom line and the environment.

In my career, I have gained expertise in designing, implementing, and managing solar energy systems for commercial and industrial clients. I have also worked on the development of e-mobility infrastructure, including charging stations and grid integration technologies.

With a commitment to staying current on industry trends and best practices, I am dedicated to helping organizations navigate the rapidly evolving energy landscape. Whether collaborating with colleagues, engaging with clients, or contributing to the broader discourse on sustainability, I am always eager to share my knowledge and insights to drive positive change.

Experience

As a Charging Infrastructure Engineer at BasiGo in Nairobi, I conduct site analysis for the installation of EV-Charger and write reports recommending number, placement, type of charging systems, electrical connections, electrical loads, and best practices. I design financial models for CapEX and Opex for financial model viability and forecasting.

I am adept at remote charger diagnostics by monitoring the performance of charging stations remotely to identify and troubleshoot any issues that may arise. Using software (Chargepoint-Viricity) and other tools, I analyze data from charging stations and diagnose problems such as malfunctions or failures.

I track and bill Saccos for the energy used during opportunity charging of their e-buses. We developed billing systems that can track usage data, calculate costs, and provide users with accurate billing information. I have experience with Kenya Power High-voltage network and Substation GIS Mapping to ensure perpetual deployment of e-Mobility charging infrastructure around Kenya.

I am skilled in local energy and power distribution policies and have a network of real decision-makers and lobbyists to get things moving around energy infrastructure. I review and develop electrical drawings and/or diagrams illustrating the location and distribution of EV-Charger. I work with fleets to develop electrification goals including vehicle acquisition planning and charging infrastructure deployment needs.

As a Business Development & Operations Engineer at Equator Energy in Nairobi, I develop a growth strategy focused both on financial gain and customer satisfaction by conducting research to identify new markets and customer needs. I increased cold calling success rate by 20% and arranged business meetings with prospective clients to promote the company's products/services.

I prepare and verify sales and PPA contracts ensuring adherence to law-established rules and guidelines. I have also managed north of $20 million in long-term solar assets and inventory, reaching a record rate of less than 3% of loss due to obsolescence. I represent the company in events, for example, regular sector meetings, conferences or meetings with International Financial Partners.

As an Electrical Project Engineer at M & E Trading Company (for Pacific Architects and Engineers, USA) in Nanyuki, I engineer and design load calculations, distributions, equipment, and lighting for Kangaita Military facility to help size the backup generators, clean power demand (UPS & Automatic voltage stabilizer) and Cable Cross-section. I design drawings and specifications with CAD, and create shop drawings with detailed notes of variances or changes from original plans.

I communicate with the project team, attending meetings 6 times per week, planning the day's work, communicating changes in design and giving feedback & responses to RFIs from the supervisor, program manager, director, and architects. I delegate and evaluate the work of 32 Electrical Technicians, 6 Plumbers, and 5 Welders, proactively addressing issues and concerns. I have improved my team's production by 21% by leading and getting involved.

As a Solar Project Engineer at Megatricity, LLC in Nairobi, I develop project plans, schedules, and budgets while identifying project goals and objectives. I manage project resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials, to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget. I coordinate with other teams, including designers, contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders.

Education

I have a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from The Technical University of Kenya, which I obtained from September 2011 to December 2016. Prior to that, I completed my Certificate in Secondary Education at Got Agulu Secondary School in Bondo, Siaya County, from March 2006 to November 2009.

Additionally, in February 2019 to March 2019, I completed a Certificate in Renewable Energy (Grid tied & Hybrid Systems Training) at Strathmore University in Nairobi, Kenya. This education has equipped me with the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue my career in the fields of electrical engineering and renewable energy.
