About Frederick Elabonga:

I am an incisive graduate accountant, highly skilled in financial management and office administration in the development sector both locally and internationally. I have over 15 years’ experience in NPO and can plan and manage all financial functions of an organization; I have consolidated departmental and sub-awardee budgets to master budgets and established corporate financial policies and best practices for various organizations. 

I apply the team-oriented approach to workflows and tasks and have extensive experience in human resources management including their mentoring and capacity building. I maintain a positive attitude towards clients and fellow employees to achieve the set objectives of the organization I work for. I also have excellent analytical and ICT skills and conversant with major accounting and ERP applications.

Experience

My financial, administrative, and grants management skills have developed over the past 20 years in a career that has spanned a wide range of international organizations and Countries.

With a Bachelor of Commerce (University of Nairobi) majoring in accounting and currently pursuing my MBA in international business management, I have a strong background in financial management. I am computer literate and quite proficient in Microsoft Office packages including Office 365 with hands-on experience in ERPs and major accounting packages such as Sun system, Quick Books, Agresso, and Microsoft Navision.

As the head of finance and ministration in both South Sudan and Kenya,I compiled and coordinated budgets, and oversaw logistics and procurement besides recruiting and building capacities of support staff. I was overall responsible for overseeing financial, accounting, and administrative services. In consultation with program teams,I conducted field visits to partners’ offices and ensured congruity and consistency of financial policies and procedures. I prepared financial reports for external donors including USAID, DFID, NMF, UNICEF, and EU/ECHO.

I also have a good understanding of the UN system having worked at UNON where I examined and reconciled incoming IOV expenditures incurred by UN HQ New York and UNDP field offices on behalf of UNON, UNEP and UN-Habitat. I prepared billing advice to respective UN agencies for services rendered and liaised with Budget Section for re-allocation of income and expenditure across budget lines.    

I have provided support to program staff including technical assistance and administration of field offices and sub-awardees. In consultation with the Procurement team, I reviewed all legal contracts, and contracts with suppliers& consultants and ensured that contractual commitments are accurately tracked, and that organization's interests are maintained. 

For 6 years as a member of the SMT in various organizations, I participated in strategic planning and direction lending my perspective and expertise to the process. I will bring to your organization not only my many years of expert experience but also my personal drive for results and positive outcomes.I understand the task ahead well and have considerable experience working in Africa as a manager and capacity builder.
