"WE REGRET"
It was in my second year of ambitious Finance study in Campus that I attended a career talk ….so the presenter was giving a testimony of how potential employeers respond to emails to unsuccessful candidates.
The opening statement is.." We regret…". Some are however kind enough to thank you for taking time to apply for a position…at that very moment, it didn't hit me hard that one can get such a reply. In fact, I was almost tempted to think that the presenter must have carelessly applied for a serious position.
Wait untill it happened to me…this time not only employees but also institutions of higher learning where I sought Masters scholarships. I can tell you for free, the pain of reading such messages aches than even the most serious heartbreaks. I rarely cry, but you can be sure tears always drop uncontrollably whenever I'm unsuccessful in the very applications I took do much time, efforts, keeness and even intense research.
I think employers should look for another phrase to express themselves. We are already used to “ We regret…” and it always give us goosebumps to read further. What do you think?
Maybe “ we are glad to inform you that you best fit another role……”
OR
“ We have recommended you for another position….”
These should fit well. What do you think?
