Impact of the internet on education

The use of the internet has had a profound impact on the society of people. Despite its many benefits, the internet has some negative effects as well. Even though there are downsides of the internet, they are so much insignificant compared to the sea of benefits that internet offers in the society. Like many other areas, the role of the internet in education is so profound, and as such, it cannot be over emphasized.

Since the discovery of the internet, it has had a positive impact on the quality of education. A lot of invaluable information, which would not have otherwise been available, are now accessible in the internet just by a click on a computer device. In addition to this, the internet enhances the speed of learning, thus increasing the information that can be mastered in a short period. The internet also brings learners and educators on one platform for the purpose of shared learning among others. The strong desire for learning, especially through the internet, has enriched the existing knowledge because many people can now afford the readily available computer devices. In various sites of the internet, learners can now interact with reputable people of academia mainly for education purposes thus enriching knowledge. These, and others, are some of the ways in which the internet improves the quality of education.

This essay discusses some of the positive impacts of the internet on education to some detail. In the succeeding paragraphs, more light has been shed on the impacts of the internet on education and learning in general. We have discussed the role of written information and downloadable media on the quality of education. Also, we have discussed how the internet improves the speed of learning. Furthermore, we have described how the internet has brought together learners and educators from various parts of the world on internet platforms for learning purposes. Subsequently, the desire by many people to use the internet for learning, which has prompted the purchasing of computer devices enmasse and enabled increased access to the internet thus educating more people and enriching knowledge. Finally, and just before the conclusion, we have described the internet as a platform that is not only a place where highly skilled academics are found, but also a library where infinite learning materials are found.

The internet has a lot of readily accessible sites that contain educative information and downloadable media. Some of these websites have written information that learners can open to read. A good example of written material in the web are blogs. Most blogs that are found in the web have been written by people who have expert knowledge in the subjects which they write about, so learners are likely to receive quality information as far as they are concerned. Other than written information, there are plethora of downloadable books, videos and audios, lots of which provide learners with the content that they need to improve their knowledge. The internet, therefore, offers infinite information and plethora of downloadable online media that do not only increase the number of items to be learnt but also improves its quality of learning and education in general.

The internet is also a very efficient tool as far as the speed of learning is concerned. This is attributable to the existence of telecommunication satellites and high gigabyte networks, which enable learners and tutors alike to cover much information and access more learning material in a given period of time. Contrary to the past, before the inception of the internet, when learners had to travel to distant bookstores and learning centers to access information, learners nowadays can easily get that information from computer devices in just a single swipe or click. Therefore, owing to telecommunication satellites, high gigabyte networks, and availability of many computer devices, a lot of invaluable information and learning media can now be quickly accessed on the internet.

Although some pundits still argue that flapping the pages of a book is more beneficial than reading on a screen, this is far from the case, because it takes much less time to get a piece of information from the internet than from a book. Tutors also have had their time of searching and disseminating the information reduced. Nowadays, many tutors can merely lecture their students at the comfort of their homes without losing much time in commutation. Likewise, students can attend lectures/classes at home just in front of their computer screens. This mode of learning reduces the vice of late attendance by both students and tutors, thus enabling them to cover more content than would have otherwise been covered in face-to-face lectures. Therefore, the internet makes learners to cover much content and tutors to disseminate more of it in a short while.

Since the birth of the internet, interactions among people of the world has increased. Learners and educators from various quarters of the globe can now meet at online platforms where learning takes place to educate each other on various subjects.  A group of learners can subscribe to various sites of such kind to learn through interaction and gain much information that can add to their knowledge. In some instances, people have opened online groups on whatsapp and facebook to educate themselves on certain subjects. People with specific knowledge in certain subjects have also subscribed and opened accounts on various websites such as youtube and udemy to educate interested people who join their channels to learn. in a nutshell, the internet has created platforms where people can come together, learn, and educate each other to sharpen their minds in various topics and subjects, thus enhancing quality of education.

Many people can now access the internet and get whatever piece of information that they need, thanks to affordable computer devices. The prices of these devices have relatively gone down and their numbers have gone up a big deal. As a result, they are now highly affordable and readily available such that almost everyone can acquire them. The desire for learning and access to information in the internet have prompted many people to purchase computer devices. The result of this is that a lot of people who want to learn can now access the internet for such activities. The final outcome of this is that many people now have access to the internet via the touch of a button, something that has made learning more open to nearly every individual on the globe. Since many more people can now learn in the internet via their own devices, it is believed that the information they have received can also be shared with other people who have not come across it, and in this way, more people would be educated.

The internet can also be said to be a concentrated source of learned information, because there are some highly knowledgeable and experienced academics who not only post intelligible information but also publish books, videos and audios and upload online. Some of these items contain well researched contents that other scholars can cite in their works. Ordinary learners can also read such items of accomplished academics to know more than what they would not have known in a given field of study. It is usually rare to meet most of the experienced academics who publish learning media in the internet. So, the only place where their work can be accessed is the internet. Such pieces of information can be shared to many people via subsequent research works and in conferences. Because the internet is a concentrated source of learned information, we can say that it is a library where infinite number of learning media can be found. It is also a school where talented, skillful, experienced, and highly knowledgeable tutors can be found.

Therefore, as far as education is concerned, the internet is a very important tool whose contribution immeasurably invaluable. The role of the internet in education is so much important so that it has become not only beneficial to learning institutions but also to learners. In light of this, the internet has plethora of benefits to education and will continue to be a very important educational resource now and in future.
