    SoCha (a portmanteau of Social and Change) is an independent Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (ME&L) firm that provides bespoke solutions to social challenges.

    Since our inception in 2010, we have grown from a consortium of globally-recognized experts who specialize in evaluating the effectiveness of development assistance, to a full-fledged ME&L services firm that specializes in advancing innovative methodologies and changing the way donors find solutions to social problems.

    Summary


    SoCha is seeking a Diversity Equity Inclusion Accessibility (DEIA) Consultant to support USAID/KEA's Democracy Governance Peace and Security (DGPS) Office by providing strategic and operational guidance to the KEA Mission and supporting USAID's efforts to advance DEIA throughout the Mission's people, processes, programs, partnerships, and policies (the 5Ps).

    Specifically, the DEIA Consultant will be required to provide technical support in developing strategies, new initiatives, training, and new coursework in advancing DEIA approaches.

    Scope of Work

    The DEIA Consultant's responsibilities will include:
    Facilitate implementation of USAID/Washington's DEIA Mission Assessment Tool

    Develop a KEA DEIA annual work plan including literature review of background documents, developing the work plan, and finalizing the work plan based on feedback received from the Mission.

    Develop and train staff on implementing a KEA DEIA MEL plan including reviewing and finalizing the existing MEL plan, engaging in planning meetings, conducting training sessions (three separate groups on three separate days), and drafting a report on the MEL plan and trainings which will include any USAID/KEA staff feedback.

    Support the creation of a USAID DEIA Community of Practice within East Africa

    Identify and map all relevant stakeholders in the DEIA space in East Africa, analyzing their interest, influence, and recent actions in the DEIA space (this will include USAID staff and external organizations).

    Develop a stakeholder database (or update any existing database) based on the outcome of the above mapping exercise.

    Plan and execute the inaugural Community of Practice meeting and support agreement on operational functions, including but not limited to frequency of meetings, intros, domain, shared goals and objectives, rotating moderator(s), agenda for next meeting, and way forward.

    Establish a platform, list serv, preferred online meeting venue.

    Draft ToR for USAID DEIA East Africa Community of Practice (with input from USAID KEA and other Mission DEIA POC staff).

    Support continued operations of the Community of Practice (building tools and maintaining platform).
    Facilitate 4- 6 regular meetings for the group.

    Building the USAID KEA team to take over the coordination process sustainably including planning for the handover process (reports, manuals, data, or presentations), creating a communication plan early in the process, and organizing knowledge sharing sessions based on specific topics of interest to the East Africa-based Missions.

    DEIA Knowledge Management Processes and Products

    Develop a DEIA Human Resources intro pack (both print and digital) that will provide easy to understand and standardized DEIA messaging.

    The Intro pack will be incorporated into trainings and onboarding of new staff for both Mission and implementing partners.

    Conduct desk reviews of existing DEIA policies and resources and engage in stakeholder interviews to document DEIA best practices and identify key gaps and knowledge needs (findings to be presented to the Mission).

    Develop standardized messaging covering DEIA topics and design interactive knowledge products including interactive PowerPoint presentations and training products.

    Collaborate with DEIA Council, HR, and training teams to integrate the DEIA Intro Pack into orientation and training programs.

    DEIA Learning Launch Event with Mission

    Capture and recognize the best practices from technical and support offices on DEIA adaptation.

    Coordinate with all Offices to get USAID/KEA best practices and success stories, documenting best practices and success stories in addition to shortlisting a selection to feature at learning events.


    Plan and prepare for the launch event including coordinating all aspects of event facilitation and providing a follow-up summary report and action items after the event.

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience

    A bachelor's degree in social sciences, human resource management, education, or any other relevant field. An advanced degree in these fields will be an added advantage.
    Demonstrated engagement and expertise in the complexities of DEIA issues within the Kenyan or African context.
    Demonstrated experience in instructional design and/or change management.
    Teaching or training experience in adult education.

    Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to synthesize large bodies of information and transform it into detailed work plans and communication plans.

    Project management, superior organizational, and time management skills.
    Demonstrated ability to facilitate productive professional relationships with other members of the working team.
    Demonstrated skills and ability in providing small and large group training in DEIA.
    Proactive and self-motivated.
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    Leadership and managerial skills.
    Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work in-person and across US government agencies and cross-culturally with diverse teams.
    Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    Proficiency in spoken and written English.
