    The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people.

    NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water,sanitation and hygiene sectors.

    The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world's largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs
    Summary

    This is an exciting opportunity to support national governments, regional organizations, and other stakeholders to enhance their capacity to prevent, reduce and address disaster displacement.

    You will also have an opportunity to ensure that IDMC continues engaging in the region, and more visibility to disaster displacement and promote tools and policy instruments to better avert, minimize or address the phenomenon.


    What we are looking for:


    NRC is seeking a highly qualified "Regional Adviser on Disaster Displacement, Sub-Saharan Africa" with relevant experience working on issues of internal or cross-border disaster displacement, disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, or related.


    What you will do:

    Some of your specific responsibilities include:

    Through desk-based and in-country analysis, undertake assessments of national data systems on internal displacement, identifying available data sources, producers, publishers and users, potential gaps, and areas for improvement to ensure a comprehensive monitoring of the phenomenon.

    Generate engagement and work closely with in-country actors to develop road maps for the improvement of national data systems on internal displacement.

    Support the strengthening of in-country capacities to prevent and address disaster displacement, including through delivering and organizing workshops, trainings, and provision of advice.

    Identify opportunities for political engagement in the region and raise awareness of governments and other organisations working on internal displacement in affected countries on the importance of collecting, analysing, reporting, and using better data to inform more impactful interventions.

    Monitor and report on policy developments in the region.
    Support requests for data-sharing between IDMC and data collecting organizations.

    Support opportunities for IDMC to access sources of primary data on internal displacement due to disasters and conflicts in the region.

    Contribute inputs to IDMC strategies and plans to engage in the region on disaster displacement, including IDMC's capacity support work.

    Support the organization of meetings and events in the region for IDMC.
    Contribute to IDMC's fundraising efforts and reporting on activities undertaken in the region.


    What you will bring:

    10 years of relevant experience working on issues of internal or cross-border disaster displacement, disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, or related.

    Ability to make large and/or complex data more accessible, understandable and usable.

    Master's degree in international development, displacement, forced migration, environmental protection, disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, or related degree.

    5 years' experience working with established networks and/or building partnerships.
    Fluency in English, both written and verbal. French is an asset.
    Excellent communication and organisational skills.
    Desirable experience working on the nexus of disaster- and conflict-related displacement.
    Desirable experience working in conflict-affected environments and managing political sensitivities.
    Need to have the right to work in one of the assigned duty stations prior to application.
