Peter Nthiga

I am a highly motivated and accomplished molecular, next generation sequencing expert, and public health researcher with a passion for advancing scientific knowledge and improving human health. With a PhD in Medical Virology and extensive research experience, I have developed a strong foundation in cutting-edge molecular techniques, including next generation sequencing, transcriptomics, and genomics.

Throughout my career, I have leveraged this expertise to make significant contributions to the fields of microbiology, infectious diseases, and public health. My research has focused on understanding the genomic epidemiology of enteric pathogens and investigating the impact of vaccine introduction on the epidemiology of circulating enteric pathogens, particularly rotavirus.  

As a researcher, I am highly collaborative and thrive in interdisciplinary settings. I believe that the most impactful research is conducted through strong partnerships and collaboration across disciplines, and am always eager to learn from and contribute to diverse teams.

Over the course of seven years, I have gained extensive professional experience as a next generation sequencing researcher in a renowned lab that serves as a World Health Organization collaborating center for vaccine preventable diseases and pathogen genomics. My primary responsibility has been to conduct sequencing work for various research projects, resulting in several publications that can be accessed via my Google Scholar profile.

In addition to sample preparation, library construction, sequencing, and data analysis, I have collaborated with fellow researchers and external collaborators to design and execute experiments, troubleshoot technical issues, and interpret results. Through my work, I have made a significant contribution to the advancement of our understanding of vaccine preventable diseases and pathogen genomics, which has crucial implications for public health.

My professional experience has given me a comprehensive understanding of next generation sequencing technologies, as well as expertise in molecular biology and genetics. I am also skilled in bioinformatics analysis, with a strong emphasis on effective communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities. As a result, my work in the lab has been instrumental in developing new knowledge, shaping public health policy and practice, and making a meaningful impact on society.
