Graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education (Arts), specialising in Mathematics and Economics (Business Studies), I have worked in a secondary school as a headteacher and a teacher. I have also worked in book publishing firms as an editorial assistant, project editor, editor for humanities, editorial coordinator for post primary textbooks, author for Business Studies, and publisher for several titles.

2018-2020:    Editorial Coordinator, Textbooks - Post Primary, Longhorn Publishers PLC., Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Projecting, forecasting, planning and implementing projects for secondary school products.
  2. Coordinating and managing the projects to meet production needs.
  3. Preparing budgets for resource allocation and control.
  4. Preparing project proposals for presentation to editorial meetings and approval by management.
  5. Monitoring stock movement for appropriate action (such as revision or reorder) to be taken.

Achievements 

  1. Completed Secondary School Encyclopaedia project (16 volumes), Revision titles for Mastering Series in Geography and Secondary School titles for Programme of Pastoral Instruction (PPI) for Forms 1 to 4. 
  2. Successfully managed the team I worked with on the various projects.
  3. Prepared budgets in good time.        

 

2015-2018:    Humanities Editor - Post Primary, Longhorn Publishers PLC., 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Sourcing and inducting authors and external readers to facilitate the development and submission of up-to-date manuscripts in the Humanities titles.
  2. Evaluating manuscripts to determine if they reflect current interests of the market and whether they satisfy the company’s publishing requirements.
  3. Assuming overall responsibility for copy editing and production of publications in the subject area.
  4. Organizing, coordinating and participating in product development workshops.
  5. Developing content for product extension.
  6. Preparing and maintaining production status reports on pending and in-process (WIP) publications.

Achievements 

  1. Managed to get a pool of authors, editors, artists and designers who enabled me handle CBC projects for Rwanda (Economics and CRE) and South Sudan (Citizenship and CRE), normal curriculum projects for Kenya (revised Business Studies, Geography and History and Government course books), Zambia (Commerce), Malawi (local languages) and Uganda (Atlas, Geography and History).
  2. Evaluated manuscripts that had been handed in and prepared a report concerning the same. Most were revision manuscripts
  3. Handled the department diligently and ensured completion, submission and approval of titles handed in.
  4. Copy edited and proofread titles for submission and printing. 
  5. Prepared, maintained and shared work in progress reports on a daily and weekly basis.
  6. Revised existing titles for resubmission and printing.   

 2013-2015:   Project Editor - Post Primary, Longhorn Publishers PLC., 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Preliminary evaluation of manuscripts before beginning the editorial process. 
  2. Liaising with artists/illustrators, designers, typesetters, editorial assistants under the permission of the Senior Editor. 
  3. Taking charge of a given project and foreseeing it to completion. 

Achievement

Successfully handled the Fundamentals Project for Tanzania. Submitted, among others, the following titles for Forms 1 to 4: Fundamentals of Bookkeeping, Fundamentals of Commerce, Fundamentals of Civics, Fundamentals of Geography.

 

2012-2013:     Head Teacher, Mercy Care Centre Secondary School

                      Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Overall management of the secondary section.
  2. Reporting to the CEO on school matters. 
  3. Coordinating learning activities at the secondary section.
  4. Preparing and presenting the secondary school budget to the CEO for approval and allocation.
  5. Implementing the management policy as it relates to teaching at the school.
  6. Achieving and maintaining high academic standards of morality, ethics and discipline by both staff and students in the school.

Achievements 

  1. Successfully run the school for a year, with the candidates’ class sitting for their KCSE. One candidate qualified for direct university admission.
  2. Admitted more learners to the school.
  3. Interacted positively with the local community and well-wishers. This saw us obtain school furniture, text books and iron sheets for the school, among other things.
  4. Completed the school syllabus in time, thus allowing for revision and exams.

 

2010-2012:     Editorial Assistant - Humanities, Longhorn Publishers PLC.,

                      Duties and Responsibilities 

  1. Preliminary assessment of manuscripts.
  2. Basic copy editing.
  3. Proofreading and liaison with typesetters and other editors in copy correction. 
  4. Preparation of photograph and illustration briefs in liaison with the editors.
  5. Conducting picture research in consultation with the editors.

Achievement

Successfully edited and submitted the following titles among others: A+ Business Studies for Kenya, Taxes and Charges (Rwanda), Commerce (Zambia), Comprehensive Primary School Atlas (Kenya).

 Managed to step in and handle the Malawi English Project to completion within the given timeframe.

2010:             Intern, Kenya Commercial Bank

                      Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Filing bank documents. 
  2. Receiving, acknowledging and issuing (under the supervision of the customer care officer), bank ATM Cards, Pin mailers, Cheque books and bank statements to customers.
  3. Opening bank accounts, ordering ATM Cards and Cheque books for customers, under the supervision of the customer care officer.

Achievement 

Managed to carry out all duties assigned to me effectively and efficiently.
