About Hajir Hussein:

I have ten years of experience in humanitarian programmes, specifically areas that I have worked include, coordination, project implementation, monitoring and evaluation, development, emergency food security and Livelihood, nutrition, data management, protection, and gender responsive programmes. With the experience, I gained from my work I have developed effective verbal and written communication with keen insight into the needs and views of others in a way that I am able to listen, identify issues or problem, and articulate in presentation. This experience has also allowed me to be able to relate well to people from varied cultural, ethnic, religious, and professional background. Experience

REACH Field Officer (March 2018-up to date)

Responsibilities

Assessment Preparation and Training.

  • Undertake travel and conduct preliminary planning missions in assessment sites
  • In coordination with the REACH Country Coordinator, prepare all details related to data collection (field schedule, daily collection quote, logistics and administration) according to specified methodology.
  • Coordinate and plan assessment team training with the REACH Country Coordinator.
  • Facilitate sessions of the assessment training as specified by the REACH Country Coordinator.

Data collection     

  • Provide regular support to the REACH collection team leaders
  • Follow all guidance from REACH Country Coordinator while in the field; ask questions when necessary
  • Accompany all data collectors in the field and ensure accurate data collection as specified in the methodology.
  • Ensure care of all REACH inventory including daily check of assessment mobile phones

Data Validation

  • Download all data from the mobile phones at the end of each data collection day
  • Spot-check online database for accuracy at the end of each day; question team leaders about any inaccuracies observed and review in daily team debriefs.
  • Is manual data is used spot-check data entries against hard copy surveys for accuracy daily
  • Perform data cleaning at the end of each assessment day

Reporting

  • Prepare final assessment reports including lessons learned, incidents and timeframe
  • Assist in preparation of assessment factsheets and consolidated reports.

External Coordination

  • Coordinate field operations with participating agencies
  • Report regularly to agency focal points about assessment progress and any changes to the plans
  •  Prepare and dissemination assessment results and presentations in relevant coordination forums and meetings

Internal Coordination

  • Daily reports / updates on work activities and outreach completed sent by email or verbally via phone.
  • Weekly situation analysis (context, activities completed, plans for next week, etc.)
  • Monthly REACH activity report noting activities completed against REACH strategy and objectives

International Organization for Migration (I.O.M) 

Project Advisor (August 2017-feb 2018)

Responsibilities:

  • Generate grant idea development, grant proposal writing, and lead in grant implementation and monitoring in accordance with the overall objectives of the SSI Project.
  • Organize community coordination, grant operations and reporting.
  • Prepare and maintain an updated electronic and hard copy of all grant documents in close coordination with grants team in Mogadishu and in Nairobi support office.
  • Prepare weekly grants report on the implementation of grants in the area under my supervision in accordance with the priorities established by the project’s Senior Management team (SMT) in Mogadishu Field support office.
  • Coordinate community dialogue events (CDEs) where required, media activities and press releases for all grants, in collaboration with SSI Strategic Communications and Media Officer in Mogadishu/Nairobi.
  • Work closely with the logistics, finance, procurement, and grants management team to ensure that grants implementation is as planned by ensuring timely procurement and delivery, payments for goods and services for all grants you are responsible for. To do these effectively organize routine planning and follow up meetings with the above team.

Rural Education and Agriculture Development Organization (READO) .

 Monitoring and Evaluation Officer (July 2013-To August 2016) 

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical oversight, coach, supervise, and oversee day-to-day operations of the team.
  • Maintain the implemented policies, guidance, systems, procedures, and tools related to monitoring and evaluation, and update as needed.
  • Oversee all the data collection and analysis processes to measure progress and achievements according to the M&E plan.
  • Mobilize relevant M&E technical assistance in a timely manner, with clearly demarcated responsibilities that are based on the participatory and equity principles of the organization.
  • Oversee the production of data reports to ensure that they are produced in timely manner according to the schedule, or by ad hoc request.
  • Write reports, analyze findings, and provide recommendations as required for contributions to planning, risk management and reporting. Ensure easy access to M&E reports and data and support wide distribution.
  • Develop close working relationships with all project participants and stakeholders; establish and maintain good working relations with the relevant government authorities as well as other stakeholder groups.
  • Organize and undertake training with stakeholders in M&E skills, including participatory aspects. Promote the concept of learning-oriented environment within the project team and targeted population.
  • Promote dissemination of lessons and knowledge sharing.
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of all relevant issues in the field of Monitoring & Evaluation.
  • Perform additional ad hoc assignments as per request of the line manager.

Community Activity for Relief and Development Organization (CAFDARO).

Nutrition Supervisor (February 2012-June 2013)

Responsibilities:

  • To ensure that the community management of acute malnutrition (CMAM) program is functioning properly, providing care of quality to all the beneficiaries, respecting protocols, and principals of good practice.

Program Responsibilities, Protocol, Procedure and Referrals.

  • Plan and organize outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP) /Supplementary feeding program (SFP) at designated distribution sites in liaison with the Nutrition project officer and Deputy program manager.
  • Ensure adequate triage/that new arrivals are seen as a priority.
  • Ensure cases not meeting admission criteria return home as early as possible and ensure the parent/caregiver understands why their child is not admitted.
  • Ensure appropriate referrals take place to and from the OTP/SFP.
  • Work with the infant and young child feeding (IYCF) counsellor to ensure that CMAM beneficiaries are referred to IYCF services when required.
  • Ensure comprehensive health checks and treatment according to the agreed protocols.
  •  Liaise with the community outreach/Nutrition workers to provide effective follow up of all cases and particularly ensure the prompt tracing of children who are absent from the program.
  •  Request specific children to be followed up as required (new enrolled children, sick children, long stay children, children not gaining weight, children with social problem etc.
  • Respect the dignity of the beneficiaries, careers, and members of the community.
  • Assist in any other tasks when required.

Reporting

  • Review the forms completed by staff to ensure completion, accuracy, and coherence.
  • Submit a daily tally of the OTP/SFP statistics.
  • Submit a weekly report of the tally of statistics for each site (one form per site per week)
  •  Report any progress and any problems in a timely manner.
  • Prepare case studies/success histories and submit to project officer for further review.

Team Supervision, Management and Capacity building

  • Supervise the activities of the OTP/SFP team at the distribution point.
  • Ensure all OTP/SFP team members are familiar with their posts.
  • Re-define team composition as necessary- either during distributions (to avoid bottlenecks) or after discussion during

Team meetings.

  • Work closely with the teams to ensure all children are measured correctly.
  • Ensure all criteria are respected and understood by the teams including admission, discharge, and transfer to and from the various components of the program.
  • Undertake individual evaluations with the team.
  • Attend regular nutrition meetings.

Supplies and Logistics

  • Complete and submit order forms to the logistics team for materials, medicine, and food requirements for each site a week in advance.
  •  Ensure adequate availability of all medical and food supplies for each distribution, offer input into the creation and maintenance of a monthly distribution plan, and ensure stock is pre-positioned as planned with the nutrition program manager and logistics teams.

Advocacy and Communication.

  • Work with CAFDARO staff and officials to ensure all aspects of the program are understood and agreed by CAFDARO.
