 My name is Fathia M. Farah. I am 34 years old female who currently lives in Ireland with her 2 children and partner. I am currently working as a Danish Customer Service Agent in National Pen Dundalk. I am originally from Somalia but when I was a child my family relocated to Denmark as refugees because of the civil war and I have spent most of my live in Denmark however in 2020 I moved to Ireland and have been living here since then.

 I have a master’s degree in International Business and Politics from Copenhagen Business School. I am a diverse and adaptable professional who is strong but fair manager with excellent skills in cross cultural team and consensus building. I am a dynamic and well-rounded professional who offers cross-functional experience in program coordination, administration, and event planning. I am a fluid communicator who leverages strong interpersonal skills to build an easy rapport with people from all walks of life.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Translated drafts and legislative documents from Somali into English and vice versa (English into Somali), for International Protection Office, Social Welfare, Department of Justice, Legal Aid board, court hearing and other government departments as well as private enterprises.
  • Completed numerous interpreting during this time including An Garda Siochana, Irish Courts, Irish Hospitals and solicitors.
  • Undertaken assignments of which it is required to demonstrate professionalism and maintain service standards to the highest level possible.

 

Monitoring and Evaluation Consultant (Freelance)

Tana Copenhagen January 2018- Present 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Conducting civil society, capacity building/coaching, and human rights and youth participation in Somalia.
  • Working with various evaluation methodologies, program formulations, studies/mappings and trainings.
  • Conducting large complex evaluations with especial concentration around development programs for different development partners in Somalia such as DFID
  • Conducting trainings using a rights-based approach and carrying out training activities promoting human rights of young men and women for a variety of CSOs working with civic engagement and social change in Somalia.
  • Preparing preliminary reports for aid mapping purposes for development partners as well as evaluating and monitoring the implementation and impact of ongoing programs by development partners in Somalia with extra focus on vulnerable groups.

 

Monitoring and Evaluation Advisor 

Ministry of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development (MOPIED), Jun 2018 – Nov 2019 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leading and coordinating the activities of MIDA advisors who were dispatched to other ministries within the framework of JICA YEPS Project.
  • Providing technical assistance and transfer to the M&E division in MOPIED.
  • Collecting and analyzing necessary information in Somalia such as relevant laws, policies, strategies and plans on youth employment, TVET and industrial development (both FGS and FMS), business environment in Somalia, situation analysis and existing start-up companies as well as ongoing programs and projects by other development partners and NGOs.
  • Assisting with the identification of potential industries and selection of pilot industries through preparation and implementation of a few day workshops in Kenya and other neighboring countries. 
  • Assisting the formulation of pilot sector development plans and human resource development plans through preparation and implementation of one week training and a few day workshop in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, Providing technical inputs to the draft sector development plans.
  • Assisting the arrangements for Business Plan Competition, promotion, advertisement and selection of participants (start-up and existing companies).
  • Assisting with the arrangements for Training of Trainers for pilot industries in third countries by selecting participants as well the preparation of a five week training in Kenya and follow up in Somalia after TOT.
  • Assisting with daily communication between Somali counterparts and Japanese consultants.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the NIEC to develop public communication strategies to underscore the importance of participation and inclusivity in electoral process 
  • Support NIEC to identify target audiences and plan effective communication activities through traditional national and regional mass media outlets (radio, television, and printed materials)
  • Support NIEC to develop a strategy to maximize cooperation (including through training efforts) with CSOs in the delivery of civil society outreach campaigns and engage national, regional and local civil society to participate in electoral activities.
  • Provide technical advice to NIEC on the structure and functions of Election materials with commissioners and senior staff in collaboration with electoral stakeholders
  • Advise NIEC on various types of information and messages to be uploaded on its website and social media platforms
  • Review and edit success stories for dissemination through website, social media platforms to the media and other stakeholders; organizations and strategic partners
  • Contributing to weekly activity reports and providing quarterly updates to internal performance monitoring and evaluation reporting
  • Preparing and submitting a final report detailing the activities, results, deliverables and recommendations achieved at the conclusion of assignment
  • Performing other technical assistance duties as assigned by the Secretary General and Public Outreach Director.
