Duties and Responsibilities
• Providing leadership and motivation to all the staff working in the department and to do periodic performance appraisal for them all.
• Assisting with all matters of Personnel including direct supervision of all the workers, planning for staff leave and ensuring that the basic welfare standards are met.
• Following up on all matters to do with utilities such as Water, Electricity Telephone, etc. and to liaise with the utility institutions such as the City Council of Nairobi, KPLC and the relevant government ministries to ensure continuity of services and compliance.
• Working with the various committees and the procurement office to ensure timely purchases for the department as stipulated in the procurement policy.
• Assisting in coordinating and supervising cleaning and maintenance of the buildings, grounds, and other facilities in AIU.
• Coordinating and planning for all transport needs of the University.
• Keeping all transport related records including fuel consumption, movement records, maintenance records etc., and ensure vehicles always have all the right papers and roadworthy.
• Working with other department such HR and Registrars offices to ensure that all international both students, staff and faculty have their immigration status are always up to date. These includes students KPP, Staff and Faculty work permits, alien registration etc.
Key Achievements
• Successful built a conducive working relationship within the department and increased motivation within the department.
• Successfully helped in planning and guiding of team members. For instance, I led, planned, and supervised them during preparation of major Events like graduation and inspection by Commission for University Education.
• I have worked and guided some of the staffs in my department who had performance issues. Through discussion and monitoring, their performance has greatly changed.
• Initiated an open policy approach where members of my team can openly discuss issues relating to their job and areas of improvement.
• Drafted a transport policy that will help the University in transport management.
• Created an electronic Filing system for Administration department through our ICT department to increase efficiency and easy accessibility of documents within the department.
• Being a member of various committee in the university like University procurement Committee I have helped the university initiate, plan and execute various projects. Recent project is Solar Installation project which aim to cut cost for the institution by reducing cost of electricity consumption.
Human Resource and Administrative Intern

• Maintained an up-to-date filing and bring-up the system.
• Assisted in Leave Administration: Preparation of leave schedules for the year, monitoring leave records and the leave liability report for appropriate action by the department heads.
