    Description

    In addressing issues linked to education and training for a competent legal profession in Kenya, both the pre and post-colonial governments have undertaken various initiatives and set up several commissions of inquiry to formulate appropriate policy.


    ROLE SUMMARY

    The successful candidate shall report directly to the Chairperson of the Council and will be responsible for providing strategic leadership in the management of the Council to ensure the execution of the Council's mandate.

    The job holder shall be in charge of the day-to-day management of the affairs of the Council and may perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Council from time to time.


    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
    Be the Administrative head and Accounting Officer of the Council, manage and plan for the efficient use of Council resources;
    Administer the day-to-day operations of the Council;
    Develop and recommend to the Council the annual business plans for the institution;
    Ensure that the Institution has an effective management structure including succession plans;
    Ensure that Board papers are accurately written, are relevant and availed to the Council members in good time;
    Serve as a link between the Council and the management;
    Provide leadership to senior management and staff;
    Oversee the implementation of the Council's decisions in an effective, efficient, result oriented and timely manner;
    Be responsible for the achievement of the objectives of the institution;
    Maintain good order of the Council and ensure compliance with Statutes and Regulations;
    Put in place effective administrative structures, processes and systems;
    Provide regular, thorough and prompt communication to the Council on key technical, financial and administrative matters;
    Comply with financial reporting requirements;
    Oversee the preparation of budgets and establish proper internal controls;
    Manage Councils' risk profile;
    Ensure the development and efficient management of Human Resources;
    Foster local and international partnerships with institutions of higher learning, research and other agencies;
    Mobilize financial and other resources;
    Be responsible for stakeholder management and enhancement of the corporate image of the institution; and
    Perform other duties as the Council may assign, from time to time.


    REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT
    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: - Bachelors degree in Law from a recognized institution;
    Masters degree in Law from a recognized institution;
    Be admitted as an Advocate of Kenya and in good standing;
    Membership in good standing to the Law Society of Kenya;
    At least Fifteen (15) years' cumulative relevant work experience, five (5) of which should be in a senior management position;
    Leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
    Proficiency in computer applications; and
    Fulfil the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
