    The Aga Khan Academy Nairobi is operated by Aga Khan Education Service Kenya (AKESK), a non-profit organization, with close to a hundred years' experience operating schools in Kenya.

    Our first formal schools were opened in 1918, and AKESK currently operates 11 schools in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu and Eldoret, serving close to 5,000 students with a quality, affordable education.


    Role Summary:


    Reporting to the AKES, Kenya Head of Academics, the Data Officer will design processes and systems for collecting, recording, analyzing and reporting student academic performance data across all AKES, Kenya schools to enable and empower the AKES, Kenya Head of Academics determine actions based on the insights.


    The Data Officer will play a key role in interpreting data to provide insights that support informed decision-making and strategic planning within the K-12 schools and creating high quality professional and easy-to-understand reports, modifying the same to a specific audience as required.

    Additionally, the Data Officer will collaborate with the AKES Head Office to support the maintenance, validation and cleaning of data housed within AKES, Kenya's student information system and support the development of best practice for various analytics, while maintaining data integrity, security and quality reporting as required from time to time.


    The Data Officer will support the AKES, Kenya Head of Academics to collaborate with school leadership and faculty members to promote the understanding and effective management of data to derive actionable insights.


    Key Responsibilities:
    Collaborate with stakeholders to understand user requirements and objectives.
    Collect, clean, and validate data from various sources to ensure accuracy and reliability.
    Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualizations to present key performance indicators (KPIs) and trends.
    Perform exploratory data analysis to discover patterns, trends, and outliers.
    Conduct statistical analyses to identify correlations and relationships within the data.
    Provide regular reports and updates to management and other stakeholders.
    Work with cross-functional teams to integrate data analytics into decision-making processes when required
    Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency through data analysis.


    Qualifications and Experience:
    Bachelor's degree in a related field preferable in Mathematics
    Master's degree will be an added advantage
    At least 3 years' experience in a data/systems analytics role
    Experience with educational data and relevant K-12 metrics is highly desirable
    Proficiency in data visualization tool and MS Office Suite
    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    Effective communication skills to convey complex findings to non-technical stakeholders
    Ability to build strong relationships with the role's stakeholders
    Detail-oriented, goal-focused and a collaborative team player
    Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing circumstances and evolving requests
    Demonstrated creativity and innovation, with confidence to bring forward ideas and new approaches
