    Reporting to: Head of Planning, Engineering and Implementation

    Business Unit: Technology - Planning, Engineering and Implementation

    Role Purpose:

    To oversee the planning, design, implementation and documentation of the fiber networks (Backbone-Intercity, Metro, and access). To coordinate all design activity in respect of the fiber network. To project manage all expansions to the fiber network and ensure that contractors comply with agreed-upon KPIs.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities


    • Conduct Fiber Networks planning in a cost effective manner


    • Procure vendors cost effectively in collaboration with procurement


    • Manage the implementation of the Fibre network Planning and Documentation.


    • Ensure the expansion of the Fibre network in line with the expansion plans.


    • Provide high quality service based on the SLA agreements and performance standards


    • Respond timeously to Fibre network disruptions that cause a loss of coverage to determine potential causes of network outages.


    • Conduct planning of the fibre access network


    • Implement the expansion of the Fibre network to maximize coverage and service delivery to Transmissions network, IP network and all customers


    • Monitor performance Fibre network through service monitoring and available statistics to determine means in which the Fibre network may be upgraded, rehabilitated or expanded to improve service and availability.


    • Manage the Fibre access network Planning and Documentation inventory to ensure company property is accurately recorded and that Fibre network Technicians has the requisite tools at their disposal.


    • Ensure the continuous improvement of company Fibre network.


    • Ensure availability of Fibre access network at a high level.


    • Prepare introduction of new Fibre network elements, routes and expansion plans to meet service level objectives


    • Ensure that Fibre network projects are carried out in accordance with relevant KPIs and within budget.


    • Validate Fibre network designs prepared by Operation and maintenance teams.


    • Manage the Fibre network Planning and Documentation team outputs and the performance of individual team members.


    • Ensure effective communication to all employees with regards to changes in the Fibre network environment.

    Academic background & Professional Knowledge:


    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Telecommunications Engineering


    • Recommended: Post graduate qualification in Engineering or Business Management

    Here Are The Skills We Are Looking For:


    • 5 or more years' experience in Fibre network Engineering of which three or more years should be in management.
    • Extensive knowledge of Fiber network (Backbone-Intercity, Metro, and access) planning and implementation.


    • Experience in operating in a multivendor environment.
