Senior Accountant, November 2020 – Present.

International Christian Centre, Nairobi.

Reporting to the Senior Pastor and Deacons Board, I handle implementation and maintenance of systems and controls to safeguard the company’s assets, maintain the integrity of financial data and operations and prepare financial reports.

  • Overseeing budget preparation, implementation and monitoring of the church’s expenditure.
  • Preparing of financial statements and accurate comprehensive management reports that compromises of the church plants and consolidated numerical, graphical analysis and explanatory notes.
  • Liaising with external auditors to facilitate external auditing of financial statements.
  • Spearheaded the computerization of the accounting system, ensuring continuous improvement of the church’s systems and accounting software.
  • Leading the transition of backlog based accounting to real time posting of transactions.
  • Overseeing church procurement processes by setting up a church procurement system, including a procurement desk, which has led to cost savings and value for money due to competitive bidding. 
  • Developing and guiding implementation of strategies to clear organization overdrafts by negotiating with suppliers for longer credit periods and instituting cost cutting measures to build savings.
  • Handling cash flow management, projections and ensuring that all ICC Nairobi church plants are adequately funded, including creating reserves. 
  • Undertaking payroll administration and all statutory deductions whilst ensuring payments are on time.
  • Updating chart of accounts, spearheading upgrading and tailoring of the payroll software to increase efficiency. 
  • Overseeing general ledger, bank and supplier accounts reconciliation.
  • Overseeing the church fixed assets register by creating an asset register and ensuring all the church assets are tagged and recognized well in books of accounts.
  • Spearheading the review, updates and implementation of the church finance policy.
  • Providing sound technical and strategic financial advice to the senior pastor on various key decisions.
  • Implementing of the management letter issues, policies and procedures in line with the strategic plan.

Achievements

  • Implemented a saving culture of at least 10% of the income received per month.
  • Successfully set-up a procurement function at ICC, which led to cost savings, value for money, increased efficiency in terms of operations and ensured automation of cash handling processes.
  • Ensured tax compliance and successfully applied for the church tax compliance certificate.
  • Built and placed fixed deposit and also re-introduced a mandatory savings as well as implementing cost cutting measures.

Regional Operations Coordinator, April 2017 – June 2020.

One Hope International, Eastern Africa.

Reporting to the Regional Director (Eastern Africa), I led and coordinated the development of regional work plans, budgets, procurement of goods and services and facilitated trainings for partners across the region.

  • Prepared accurate and complete budgets and forecasts for eastern Africa programs.
  • Ensured requested or purchased equipment were effectively managed including a forecast for replacement and/or retirement.
  • Facilitated all the components of financial resources for the Eastern Africa region by submitting requests for disbursements to every region, by planning and evaluation. 
  • Monitored and evaluated submitted expense reports, financial and accounting records for each program.
  • Supported regular audits of submitted reports and accounting systems. 
  • Trained national teams and partners on accounting principles, protocols and reporting.
  • Ensured timely filing of all the statutory deductions for staff and ensured that all tax penalties were paid on time.

Reporting to the Senior Accountant, I provided accounting support to the organisation by ensuring effective co-ordination of administrative/accounting functions required for efficient financial operations.

  • Performed bank reconciliations, MPESA reconciliations and initiated payments to suppliers and vendors. 
  • Ensured proper and completeness of filing of all income and expenditure transactional documents and was custodian off all accounting office books.
  • Handled income analysis and posting to ERP, SAGE, ACCPAC as well as petty cash management.
  • Prepared and compiled the budget and monitored the expenditure of the organization.
  • Oversaw timely filling of returns on I-Tax, ensuring that statutory payments were made on time.

  • Prepared accurate and complete budgets and forecasts for eastern Africa programs.
  • Supported filing of all accounting documents, including petty cash administration.
  • Assisted in writing cheques and presented them to relevant authorities to be signed. 
  • Performed income analysis and posted to ACCPAC.
