I am Patrick Ereng,a degree holder in community development with 10 years of humanitarian work experience in different capacities. Social worker based at Reception center/Peace building office

Key responsibilities:

 

 

  • Take responsibility on the process of individual client assessment
  • Provide support counseling and appropriate referral for individuals with psychosocial issues in the camp
  • Ensure constant liaison between LWF, the Kenya police department and refugee guards to ensure the redress of criminal offences
  • Facilitate the resolution of conflict through the process of arbitration and mediation with the local and refugee community
  • Document and update regularly individual case history files
  • Facilitate the formation of peace committees and the conducting of community peace workshops
  • Conduct and facilitate awareness creation on human rights and peace process
  • Take a lead role in advocacy and community mobilization in upholding individual human rights
  • Monitor the resolution of cases by the Peace and arbitration committees in the camp.
  • Identify community Peace education training needs and offer training on the same
  • Conduct follow-ups in the refugee community on the utilization of peace education skills by the graduates of the community peace education workshops
  • Conduct trainings on peace building and conflict resolution
  • Assist in producing reports, and work plans as required by LWF management. 
  • Preparing feature reports as they occur and when required
  • Assist in planning, developing of unit proposals and budgets
  • Training the community leaders in the camp on democracy, good governance and constitutional skills 
  • Oversee and facilitate communities elections in the camp to ensure its free and fair
  • Facilitate appropriate training for refugee staff, national staff and local community leaders on areas of peace building, conflict resolution, arbitration, community participation and self- management
  • Receiving referrals from community field staff and checking on their duty performance
  • Conduct yearly  baseline surveys
  • Organizing and conducting international days such as the International Day of Peace
  • Conduct monthly inter-agency case conference with all the implementing partners to highlight and address the plight of refugees with different needs 

 

1/10/2016- DEC 2019 -PROMOTED TO DEPUTY PEACE BUILDING AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION OFFICER

Responsibilities

  • Plan  with SCO   and coordinate training sessions of the  community member
  • Support the Senior SCO in the preparation of the Monthly incentive payroll, weekly, monthly, Quarterly midyear, and annual reports.
  • Facilitate appropriate training for refugee staff, local community leaders on areas of peace building, conflict resolution, arbitration, community participation and self-management in order to promote social cohesion in the communities both host and refugee.
  • Assist in planning, developing of unit proposals and budgets
  • Facilitating Social cohesion program in the community.
  • Monitor the resolution of cases by religious /traditional leaders, women consortium and Peace committees in the Host communities and the refugee community.
  • Take a lead role in advocacy and community mobilization in upholding individual human rights.
  • Conducting quarterly meetings with refugee ,host community  leaders / community structures to discuss and address different concerns of the community
  • Ensuring there is strong social cohesion among the refugee community and between refugee and the host community through joint dialogue sessions.
  • Generally ensure that implementation of all the activities under social cohesion unit.
  • Any other duty as  may be assigned by the supervisor

2/2013-05/2014:Nadirkonyen Catholic Centre for Street And Exploited Children’s Programme

Duties and responsibilities

  • Offering psychosocial support to exploited children identified and enrolled into the center
  • Writing and documenting projects activity reports,weekly,monthly,quarterly and annual reports
  • Carrying out home visits for the children under the center
  • Facilitating the formation of children’s rights clubs in various primary schools within Lodwar municipality.
  • Referring children to appropriate institutions to access the necessary professional help.
  • Conducting surveys regarding the child laborers and sexually exploited children within Turkana region
  • Facilitator in workshops meant for exploited children project
  • Writing case stories for the children under exploited children programme
  •  Mobilization for community awareness on child labor, sexual exploitation and children rights in general.
  • Supervising self-help groups and ensuring their success through acquiring loans from the bank

On 7th JAN 2014 -I was appointed as the head of Social Department.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Chairing the departmental meetings in the programme especially during the enrolment of new children into the center
  • To oversee the daily activities in the department and ensure that they are carried out effectively
  • Evaluate the progress of the activities in the department-Quarterly evaluation.
  • Supervising all the attaches and recommending them.
  •  Preparing weekly projection in the department.
  • Ensure smooth running of the Department by supplying the necessary requirements/materials.

Worked with TWADO(Turkana Women Advocacy and Development Organization)The program covered three divisions( Turkana central,kalokol and kerio).

I worked with (APEI) Alemun Pastoralist Empowerment Initiative as A COMMUNITY CIVIC AND VOTER EDUCATION FACILITATOR in the entire Lochwaa Location in Turkan South sub-count in Turkana county.

 

DEC  2011 to Jan 2012

Worked with (TEFA)-Turkana Education For All as a community mobilizer-mobilizing the community members to bring their children to school and preparing them for 40 days before joining formal education at Nareng’emunyen village in Lochwaa location in Turkana south sub county in Turkana county.
