Moses Kariuki

Am a graduate pursued a diploma in mechanical engineering (plant option) at kabete national polytechnic. I have enhanced my skill by working in different companies through internship program at D.K engineering industrial attachments programs at New Kenya co-operative Creameries-Cheese factory and Kenya tea development agency -Ndarugu tea factory. This have enabled me to gain skills in machine installation, assembly and maintenance this come in handy with the achieving the factory goal and objective. I possess great skills in boiler control technique, preventive, scheduled and corrective maintenance , general overhaul, steam piping, steam control, steam insulation, and auxiliary component maintenance, and knowledge in different kind of boiler e.g. Cochran boiler, Cornish boiler, Lancashire boiler, Babcock and Wilcox water tube boiler, and sterling boiler.

I have skills in installing and maintaining food processing equipment’s. Knowledge of electrical circuits (power and control circuits.) automation of machine.

I have great skills in using different kind of computer aided programs specifically  AutoCAD SolidWorks and Arch Cad. Great skills in different welding techniques; arch welding, metal inert gas welding, tungsten inert gas welding, spot welding and submerged welding. 

November 2020-present, D.K ENGINEERING L.T.D.

Am an intern at D.K Engineering and working as a technician.

My main roles are to work in the workshop as a welder and fitter. We make different kinds of machines in the food and processing industries. (Ovens, Pasteurizers, Homogeneous, Pulper, G-stoner, Wash troughs, and many others).

 I have gained skills using different kinds of welding machines e.g. TIG welding, MIG welding, Spot welding, oxy-acetylene gas welding, and arc welding. Skills using a milling machine, lathe machine, bending machine, guillotine machine, and laser machine.

I have gained skills in machine maintenance e.g. furnace burner maintenance.

February 26, 2020- March 17, 2020- New Kenya co-operative creameries- cheese factory. 

I was an intern at the cheese factory working as a plant mechanic.

My main roles were to maintain machines by carrying out preventive maintenance, scheduled maintenance, and corrective maintenance. 

During my period I was able to learn new things majorly about boilers, compressors, refrigerators, and cold rooms. 

Workshop technique in using lathe machine, milling machine, bending machines, hydraulic press, and bench drills.

Maintenance of refrigerators.

• Periodic maintenance and cleaning of the boiler.
• Starting and stopping the boiler safely.
• Using all boiler mountings and interpreting them.
• Maintaining boiler accessories.
• Safety measures when working in a cold room.
• Assembling and maintenance of compressors.

Plant safety measures, and first aid techniques when exposed to different kinds of health hazards.

JANUARY ,2019-APRIL,2019 -KENYA TEA DEVELOPMENT AGENCY-NDARUGU TEA FACTORY.

I worked at the tea processing factory for a duration of 4 months. During those 4 months, I was able to gain skills in machine maintenance, assembly, and installation.

Workshop skills specifically using the milling machine: for roller sharpening.

Scheduled plant maintenance and overall plant maintenance which was done periodically.

Weekly boiler maintenance and monthly over haul.

I was able to take part in installation of a new continuous fermenting unit machine, cutting tearing and carrying machine.

I gained skills in boiler maintenance, driers maintenance, dust handling techniques, and overall steam pipes preventive and corrective maintenance.

Plant safety measures, first aid when exposed to different accidents.

 Diploma in mechanical engineering (plant option).  I gained knowledge in the following areas: power plant, Control and automation, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics,

Computer-aided design and Engineering mathematics 3 in my third year of studies.

In my second year, I got exposure to refrigeration and air conditioning, plant electrical, mechanics of machines, the strength of materials, instrumentation, building services and machine installation, industrial organization management, engineering mathematics 2, plant drawing and I passed in all.

In my first year, I did the following units: workshop technology, plant maintenance, material and metallurgy, engineering drawing one, engineering mathematics 1, entrepreneurial education, communication skills, and life skills, and I passed in all.
