Business Development Manager – Africa and Middle East, Thunes, February 2022 - Date

My role and responsibilities include: 

• Open up collection capabilities from existing partners such as banks and wallet providers

• Engage other payment methods that are not current Thunes payout partners to bring them onboard as payment method partners

• Manage the end-to-end sales process from sourcing new leads to closing deals with new partners to expand our collections network 

• Monitor market trends and stay up to date with the key payment methods across the region 

• Leverage industry knowledge to craft thoughtful partnerships and product strategies with banks and networks, partnering with business development and various stakeholders (including risk, product, engineering, compliance, legal, and treasury)

• Work with our local legal teams to assess any legal implication for each market associated to the payment methods 

• Work with various other stakeholders to prepare and update product price and cost calculation, product items and descriptions, service specification and product support documents 

• Manage the local and regional product portfolio 

• Collect information such as technical documentation and pricing models • Take into account financial, functional, technical, regulatory, legal and operational analysis

Manager, Ecosystem Build – Airtel Money Kenya Limited, September 2020 – February 2022 

My role and responsibilities: 

● Build and develop Airtel Money consumer products and services (Cash In, Person to Person On net and Cross network Transfers, Cash out, International Money Transfers, Airtel Money Card and any other relevant products)  

● Manage technical consulting from inception to commercial stage of product development  

● User acceptance testing for all new products  

● Define user cases, product design and product requirements for new development or customization to meet specific customer needs and liaise with the technical team to ensure correct implementation after defined UATs are completed New Integrations 

● End to end project management for new integrations including PCN, UAT technical consulting to launch User acceptance testing for all new integrations  

● Provide required product development and operations reports as input to the Airtel money weekly, monthly report, including roadmaps and performance against target dates Portal and Application builds  

● Manage portal builds for Super-agent, merchant, bulk-pay, pay-bill and sales websites amongst others  

● Project Management for new application builds System Monitoring and Development  

● Participate in developing service level agreements (SLAs) with shared services – Sales, Marketing, IT, Customer Service and Network sections and ensure adherence to the set standards Merchant Integration Develop tariffs, products and processes for Loans, savings, IMT, Insurance sign ups and implementations while managing costs competition, regulation and market constraints  

● Lead commercial negotiations with third parties involved in product provision and manage agreement life cycle. 

 

Product Manager – PayGo Energy August 2019 – 30th August 2020 

My role and responsibilities include: 

 

● Test Software Engineering deployments and provide bug and fix report scopes for software engineering. 

● Gather product requirements based on rigorous customer interviews. 

● Develop quick prototypes to validate product scopes 

● Create customer documentation for new products. 

● Work with Engineering, Business Development, Marketing, and Finance to prioritize the next product

● Scoping the product for the engineering team

Product Manager – ABSA Kenya Sep 2014 – Dec 2018 

● Buildup of a liability book of about 10 billion shillings through the development of banking products for the Retail, business banking and corporate space  

● Created products with User experience (UX) being core to the development to ensure product desirability was achieved. 

● Coordinated product launches with marketing to maximize effectiveness 

● Forecast product performance in the market based on research to accurately estimate the Return on investment 

● Work with marketing to develop communications that speak to customer needs.

● Synergize with our legal teams to ensure fair play was practiced on both ends 

● Attended court dates to represent the bank on collection-associated cases.

● Manage the day-to-day running and management of the CFO’s diary and office. 

● Run the e-diary system where meetings would be booked and confirmed online saving time and resource used up in calling to do the same

● Organize team events for our department ensuring inclusivity and engagement, which ultimately led to a more cohesive team and a high performing one.
