About Hilda Jerono:

Diligent agribusiness and project management expert who has overseen farm operations and record keeping at different organizations. I am adept at marketing strategies and facilitating local farmers with sustainable farming techniques. I am also a project management specialist as my educational background exhibits, and I have engaged in various community service work with VSO.  

Through my volunteering journey with Voluntarily Service Overseas (VSO) and, for Sustainable Development, I have gained solid experience on societal issues such as disability inclusion, gender equality, food security, and inclusive education that align with the Sustainable  Goals. 

Additionally, I have been engaged as a research assistant with Voluntarily Service Overseas, whereby I have conducted research on issues affecting society, collected data and analyzes results. I have gained solid experience on training the marginalized groups on topics such as entrepreneurship, group formation and empowerment

WORK EXPERIENCE

2019 January to date: Youth for Sustainable Development- Nandi chapter/ VSO as Community Volunteer

  Responsibilities:

Currently, I volunteer with a community-based organization known as Youth for Sustainable Development, which is under a Voluntarily Service Overseas organization. I work alongside my counterparts in Nandi to empower the marginalized to identify their spaces, rights, policy practices, and leadership development and actively participate in community activities.  

I have been engaged in various roles, such as;

  • Mentorship programs such as conducting sexual reproductive health talks, career guidance sessions, training, and facilitating rights clubs in teaching institutions
  • Business training and facilitations to various elf-help groups
  •  Environment conservation through garbage collection and tree planting
  • Empowered Persons with Disabilities in the community to take charge of their development by enlightening them to identify safe spaces for themselves
  •  Supporting a Deaf-led group known as Inclusive Neighborhood Spaces (INS) to identify their spaces and rights through policy development and analysis
  • Engaging in webinars during the Covid-19 pandemic with the aim of webinars meetings was to pass information to many people on how to mitigate the spread of Corona Virus.
  • As part of Voluntarily Service Overseas, I am also engaged as A volunteer workforce volunteer whereby I am an assistant researcher, and I have undertaken roles such as:
  • Facilitating focused discussion groups intending to collect opinions and ideas about inclusive education in the Nandi. In this case, I was entitled to gather information about how Persons with Disabilities have benefited from Voluntarily Service Overseas activities regarding inclusive education.
  • I have facilitated group formation training for various youth groups in Nandi. In this case, group formation training aimed to enable young people to develop a clear leadership structure for their groups.
  •  As a research assistant, I have collected and analyzed data about sexual reproductive health among young girls in Nandi. The activity aimed to determine whether Deaf young girls know their sexual reproductive health rights in the community.
  • Additionally, as a research assistant, I collected data about how the Covid-19 pandemic affected individuals’ livelihoods. I was gathering information via online surveys to know how people can still sustain their livelihoods after the onset of Covid-19. 

 

 June to September 2018: Voluntarily Service Overseas (VSO) as ICS Volunteer 

Responsibilities:

  •  Engaged in creative learning field research: collection of data regarding the well-being of individuals in the Entonet area
  • Empowered young girls and women to embrace new income sources
  • Facilitated forums on innovation and champion access to education and other valuable services in society
  • Conducting peer education sessions in three primary schools in the Entonet area alongside my counterparts

Achievements

I facilitated the empowerment program that helped more than 300 young girls and women to embrace and adopt new ways of earning an income.

2017 to 2018: Nandi Tea Estates as Casual Worker

Responsibilities:

I worked as a casual worker in the following departments;  

  • Withering
  • Fermentation
  • Sorting
  • Tea tasting

 

Jan - July 2014: Intern at Nandi Hekima Sacco

My responsibilities as an attaché included;

  • Making field visits to farmers as organized by the management.
  • Conducting follow-ups on the loan application and repayment of loans by Sacco’s clients
  • Drafting of weekly reports as required by the organization
  • Monitoring the performance of farmers’ overall production

Education

May 2019 to date: Diploma in Project Management- Module III (Kenya National Examination Council)

September 2013 to December 2017: Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness Management at Kisii University.

January 2009 to November 2012: Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education at ST. Joseph’s Girls’ High School- Chepterit.
