During my time with Makarim Limited, I introduced new products and | |
service lines to all the five shops, such as Mpesa money transfer | |
services, Bonga Point redemption from Safaricom and airtime credit | |
wholesaling, which resulted in an increase in both sales and profits. | |
The introduction of a rigorous staff training program assisted in the | |
increase of sales, customer retention and the quality of services | |

The improvement in sales has prompted the implementation of an | |
expansion strategy which resulted in the opening of four new shops in | |

Bara Kali is a junior mining company incorporated in Mauritius in 2012 and focused on Industrial Mineral assets in East and Central Africa. During my time with Bara Kali, I worked with a small team of professionals to develop various assets in Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Sudan. In addition to project identification and development I assisted in the sourcing of funds for operational and capital expenditure requirements. During my time there my team has raised a total of USD 600,000 with a further USD150,000 in the pipeline.
My duties and achievements at Bara Kali Limited have included the following:
- Securing a Special Prospecting License for a mining project in Kilifi, Kenya.

geologists, process engineers and logistics companies. | |
· Actively arranging facilities through banks and | |
international equipment suppliers to provide all mining | |
and processing equipment required for various projects. | |
· Successfully negotiated an off-take agreement to | |
purchase all mined material from the Kilifi mine on a | |
multiyear contract with an international firm based in | |
India. | |
· Successfully negotiated a lease deal for 20,000 acres of | |
community land for a period of 25 years to undertake | |
large scale farming of crops for renewable energy | |
generation. | |
· Developed a comprehensive community engagement | |
program to involve, inform and sensitize local | |
communities on the effects and advantages of | |
investment, development and the benefits to their | |
various communities. This program played a crucial role | |
in obtaining key stakeholder consent for mining projects.

In 2013 I was seconded by Commercial Intelligence to ERG -Juba, | |
South Sudan to work for Charter One Bank. During my time at the | |
bank I was responsible for internal auditing and the review and | |
rectification of a recent banking system migration. | |
In my capacity as an internal auditor I was able to identify key | |
operational, financial, and security risks affecting the bank. With | |
board approval I implemented various reporting procedures, controls | |
and training regimes resulting in a measurable reduction in risks faced | |
by the bank. During my audit of the system migration of accounts | |
from the former Islamic banking system of Imal to the upgraded | |
Ambit system, I was able to rectify a number of incorrect and | |
incomplete migrations which saved the bank a significant amount of | |
money.

My duties included but were not limited to sourcing large international debts and claims, formulating strategy for collecting and negotiating resolutions to claims. I was mandated to troubleshoot any problems that occurred during collection and resolution of debts and claims in order to streamline the process. During my time at CI I was part on a three person team that sourced, negotiated and purchases a USD 35 million distress debt portfolio from a major bank in Nigeria for a one off payment of only USD 2.2 million and recovered more than USD 20 million from debtors, with other cases on-going at various stages in court.
