About Ayan Osman:

I have over 6 years experience as a clinical pharmacist and have worked in 5 NHS trusts, two of which I have exercised management skills leading a team of 15 healthcare staff, by delegating, supporting and overseeing daily tasks, which included daily debriefs, fortnightly meetings, managing rotas, interceding in conflict resolution, and resolving concerns to do with the running of pharmacy. Furthermore, I have worked in over 30 community pharmacies, assuming the role of Responsible pharmacist, which required that I secure the safe and effective running of the pharmacies (daily CD checks, managing fridge and storage conditions, which often meant that I raised concerns to superintendent pharmacist or proposed more effective methods of running the pharmacy. For example adopting methods that minimized supplying errors (changing location of similar packaged medication, or delegating times in the day for more essential tasks, for example preparing Controlled drugs in the morning, or assigning daily fridge and CDs checks to specific staff). As well as this, I adopted an advisory role, attending daily meetings at each trust, advising consultants, junior doctors, nurses and other Allied Healthcare professionals on effective medication management, from prescribing options, to administering methods as well as monitoring bloods and side effect profiles. Also, I am regularly involved in counselling patients on how to get the best use out of their medications. I have worked in extremely challenging environments (alongside mentally ill patients as well as patients with criminal convictions). However my experience of dealing with such patients has heavily improved my communicational skills, as well as allowing me to build strong rapport with all types of patients. I have become an extremely compassionate and patient individual working with these patients, and they have enabled me to become a better person as well as a pharmacist. Also, I worked extensively with patients from disenfranchised, Black, Asian, Minority and Ethnic (BAME) communities on how to manage their mental health through therapy and medication management

I firmly believe that I have the professional experience and academic knowledge to succeed in this position. At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic I returned to Mogadishu, Somalia and had been supporting and running the pharmacy of a private clinic in Mogadishu, The Somali Swedish Hospital. As the managing pharmacist at the hospital I worked under significant pressure and in a tense and fluctuating context.

Experience

I am a well-qualified pharmacist who would be an excellent choice for this position.

I have an ability to grow with a job, handle responsibility and build positive relationships with work colleagues at all levels.

Beyond that which is already mentioned, I am someone who knows how to set goals and achieve them, and have a proven track record of being able to conceive, develop & execute strategies. I feel certain that my strong communication, organisational skills coupled with my ability to make strong and decisive decisions will be of immediate value to Medicines Sans Frontiers.  I have worked extensively in challenging environments, from UK psychiatric hospitals, Prisons, rehabilitation centres as well as working and volunteering in a high conflict region, and have been able to utilise very useful skills such as strong rapport, emotional intelligence as well as listening skills.

I would dearly like to further discuss the scope of this position, with you in person, and would welcome the chance of a meeting.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
