January 2019 – Present:   Safaricom Investment Cooperative: 

System Administrator (In-charge of ICT Department).

Key Responsibilities:

Overall responsibility for managing IT systems and infrastructure at Safaricom Investment Cooperative with a key focus on ensuring that they support business needs. I was responsible for the development and implementation of the Cooperative Core Business System – Dynamics 365 Business Central, the CRM, Call center, New Website and various Self-Service Portals and App (Android & iOS), IT Strategy as well as providing executive level input for the company’s strategic planning and execution.

  1. ICT Policy Development
  • Develop and implement IT standards and policies.
  • IT strategy and related budgets
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the Society practices for data protection, internet use, e-mail, security, and ICT resource management

2. Management of overall IT Systems and infrastructure.

  • Manage the overall IT Systems and infrastructure (Cloud VMs (8), Collocated & On-Prem Servers (1), Firewall, and their Networks (Wired & Wireless) with a key focus on ensuring they support business needs.
  • Systems planning, software, ICT security, network, and users oversight
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain appropriate ICT infrastructure and connectivity solutions for Society for the secure, efficient, and effective flow of information to facilitate operations and timely decision-making.
  • Drive the use of technology in the organization.
  • Ensuring minimal downtime on NAV and other ICT support systems.

3. Project management 

  • Manage overall planning and scheduling of ICT projects;
  • Advisory on organization ICT needs.
  • Maintain overall responsibility and accountability for ensuring IT outcomes are achieved and reported.
  • Efficient & effective management of projects costs, quality and timely completion of projects.

4. IT Security and support

  • Systems planning, software, ICT security, network and users’ oversight.
  • Develop documentation, implement, test and review business continuity plan (Disaster Recovery Plan) for ensuring systems availability and business continuity. Maintaining a backup system for all the data in the Society and storing them safely.

5. Service Level Management 

  • Creating and maintaining a catalogue of all services. Defining and documenting performance levels, quality and standards. 
  • Works with client/user representatives to determine service level requirements. 
  • Manages customer expectations and perceptions in order to optimize customer satisfaction.

  • Implementation of SIC Core Business System – Dynamics 365 Business Central. Automated transaction posting through System integration with Banks, C2B Mpesa, System modules, Portal and Apps.
  • Establishment of the Co-operative Call Center.
  • Development of a new Cooperative Website. 
  • On-Board Board Management System.
  • On-Boarding of Asigra Backup Solution.

 

2016– 2018: Mombasa Maize Millers (Nairobi) LTD:           

System Administrator (In-charge of ICT Department)

Key Responsibilities:

Coordinate implementation of the ICT Infrastructure and Systems Application, optimizing resource utilization and embracing IT standards, and best-practice. Perform the following roles for MMM:

  1. Network Development 
  • Devise, develop, and deliver plans e.g. strategic and budgetary plans for network development including the formation of a master plan for the IT section
  • Organize and Coordinate activities – Opening up of companies depots and remote locations. 

2. Project management 

  • Maintain overall responsibility and accountability for ensuring IT outcomes are achieved and reported
  • Efficient & effective management of projects costs, quality, and timely completion of projects 
  • Interface with key departments/ Service providers – (Liquid Telecom and Safaricom) on regular inspection and tracking of project progress

3. Administrative Support 

  • Leadership, performance management, mentorship, and development of staff; adherence to policies, guidelines, and quality requirements.

4. Operations Management 

  • Manage day operation of Mombasa maize Miller’s (Nrb) Ltd host computers by monitoring systems performance, configuration, maintenance, and repair. 
  • Ensure that records of the system downtime and equipment inventory are properly maintained. Applies revision to host system firmware and software. Works with vendors to assist with support activities.
  • Develops new system and application implementation plans, custom scripts, and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability. Trains technical staff in how to use new software and hardware developed and /or acquired.
  • Ensure high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission-critical host computer resources.
  • Develop procedures to maintain security and protect the system from unauthorized use, acts of nature, and user abuse.
  • Provide procedures, programs, and documentation for backup and restoration of the host operating system and host-based application.
  • Develop tools procedures and training sessions for operation, client support, and system development staff to assist with work
  • Stay current with technological development in system administration technology and recommend ways for Mombasa Maize Millers (Nrb) Ltd to take advantage of new technology.

ICT Systems Support (In – charge of ICT Section)

Key Responsibilities:

  •  In charge of the University ICT structure composed of several workstations and peripherals in 3 laboratories and various departments.
  • Maintaining and Troubleshooting the University Structured Local Area Network (LAN) and a WAN that links to the main Campus.
  • Maintaining and Troubleshooting Computers hardware, software, and peripherals and maintaining Cisco IP Network phones and systems.
