PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE   

Research Scientist & Forester                                                                      May 2023 – July 2023    Kenya Forestry Research Institute KEFRI (CHERP)   

Conduct research on forests under the institution’s policy and project work, that is in accordance with the institution’s 6th Strategic Plan, also aligned to the National Government Big Four Agenda and the accelerated achievement of 10% tree cover in our constitution.   

Key responsibilities and achievements   

• Conducted research on how forest’s biomass plays a role in Carbon sequestration and fixation to reduce the impacts of climate change. Research that has championed for awareness creation among the local communities, to partake on forest establishment and protection. (Forest Conservation and Management Act, No. 34 of 2016)  

• Established tree nurseries, raising over 50,000 seedlings of Warbugia ugandensis (greenheart tree) a tree species loved for its insect resistant wood and medicinal value, that supported forest restoration and afforestation projects initiated to rehabilitate degraded areas, increase carbon sinks, and protect biodiversity. Through this initiative, the institution made more tree seedling sales between the month of May and July.

Member of Environmental Association                                           September 2019 – April 2023  Youth for Green Action Kenya (YGAK) YGAK, EGERTON UNIVERSITY   

Led in planting 100,000 trees in Narok to support the government’s agenda to plant over 15 billion trees. 

Key responsibilities and achievements 

• Provided education and awareness programs, leading my team from Egerton to equip Maasai youths with knowledge about environmental issues, conservation practices, and sustainable development.   

• Organized tree planting exercises from 23rd May to 28th May 2023, planting 100, 000 (Eucalyptus grandis and Pine) tree species to combat deforestation, enhance biodiversity, and mitigate climate change. Encouraging communities to participate in reforestation efforts.   

• Conducted clean-up activities and advocated for responsible waste disposal around Egerton Njoro town during world Environment day held on 5th June 2022. Promoting waste reduction, recycling, and proper waste management practices.
