About Valentine Nzau:

I am a young professional and a graduate from African leadership university Mauritius. I have   research experience, and proven adminstrative management and leadership skills. I have experience as an operations Intern at Samuel Hall East Africa, where I managed travel requests,  gathered and analyzed data, and prepared activity reports. I am committed to using evidence to advance programming and have a passion for exploring diverse working experiences. 

Experience

  1. Research Operations Intern 

Samuel Hall East Africa,  April 2022- October-2022.

I worked in planning and executing field work preparations and activities for projects in Kenya and Niger focusing on resilience, migration, and climate change. More specifically, I: 

● Managed and maintained a file system covering expenses, reports, and support documentation. 

  • Provided administrative support to operations manager 

● Gathered, organized, and modeled data to assist management in making key decisions. 

● Prepared and proofread reports detailing operations activities. 

● Conducted 120 semi-structured interviews as a team leader. 

● Created the fieldwork budget and made contracts for the enumerators.

 ● Directed automation of office procedures such as correspondence management, recordkeeping, and online communications.

 

2. Assistant Project Manager Intern

Lifeskills Promoters (LISP), Nairobi Kenya. May 2019 - August 2019 

I worked directly with the project manager on a project that aimed to change the school curriculum for children growing up in troubled environments. The main aim of the project was to teach these children emotional intelligence and learn how to help their community long term. More specifically, I: 

● Tracked project performance to analyze the successful completion of short- and long-term goals. 

● Identified project scopes, constraints, risks, and deadlines. 

● Prepared and filed documents and collected data to track performance and efficiency.

● Supported project managers in managing schedules and milestones. 

● Assisted the finance team in drafting and budgeting finances for future workshops and events. 

● Hosted 5 field trips to educate 40 less privileged children on emotional intelligence and mental health. 

 

3. Intern 

Kenya Red Cross Society, Nairobi Kenya, May 2018-August 2018. 

I worked with the disaster management team and administration team. More specifically, I: 

● Collaborated with a team of 20 to plan a fundraising event for disaster respondents that raised $30,000 in 2 months. 

● Coordinated with a team of 5 to respond to a fire crisis by keeping records of missing people. 

● Conducted comprehensive internal research for the organization to draft solutions for improving the existing systems. 

● Worked with clients to improve life choices and maximize the benefits of programs.
