As an operating theatre technician, my day begins with preparing for the day's operations. This involves setting up the operating theatre, making sure all the equipment and instruments are in good working order, and that the room is sterile. After this, I help to transfer patients from the wards to the operating theatre, and assist with any pre-operative procedures. During the actual operations, I provide support to the surgeon and anaesthetist by passing instruments, and preparing the surgical site. After the operation, I help to transfer the patient to the recovery area, and assist with their care. After a hard day's work, I take stock of the supplies and equipment, and document my day's activities and achievements in the patient records.
