My name is Jaoko Ronaldo Juma. I am a Kenyan-trained Economics professional currently working with the Kenya Private Sector Alliance, an organization that supports businesses with opportunities for training, networking, financial linkages, mentorships & coaching, access to markets, value chains and investment opportunities in the Public Private Dialogue Department after one year at the Policy and Research Unit. I am an accomplished and seasoned professional with an extensive background of success in this field, having studied Economics at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (and currently studying Masters), along with the qualifications which are required to make a positive impact in this role.

In addition to my academic and professional skills and experience, I am systematic and organized in approach, with the ability to work on my own initiative including accuracy, consistency, attention to detail, and tenacity. I also can work in a fast-paced, ever-changing context across a broad range of functions and think creatively and practically. Experience

April 2023 to Date: Working as a Public-Private Dialogue Officer- The Kenya Private Sector Alliance.

 

My primary responsibilities entail, but are not limited to the following;

  • Effective running of sector boards. This includes ensuring they are vibrant and members are adequately facilitated through the established PPD mechanisms to engage Government and other relevant stakeholders towards a conducive business environment; 
  • In consultation with the leadership of Sector Boards, schedule and hold Sector Board meetings, Ministerial Stakeholder Forums and other sector-related meetings; 
  • Preparing, filing and sharing reports of meeting proceedings for all allocated sectors within agreed upon timelines in clear and effective communication; 
  • Keeping track of pending, ongoing and emerging issues raised at the sector board or that have an impact on the operations of businesses within the sector board and appraise your colleagues, supervisor and members of your sector boards on the same; 
  • Preparing meeting documentation including agenda, reports, white papers etc as required; 
  • Contributing to the achievement, monitoring and evaluation of the KEPSA strategic plan and National Business Agenda; 
  • Participating in the planning and execution of KEPSA meetings and events that contribute towards the achievement of the organization’s objectives; 
  • Coordinating the collection, collation and harmonization of member views and input towards policy documentation and other documents as may be required. 
  • Responding and advising on sector-specific enquiries; 
  • Annual & Quarterly development of sector work plans; 
  • Scheduling and hosting cluster PPD meetings. This includes preparing meeting material, taking and sharing meeting minutes; 
  • Delivery of sector-related National Business Agenda targets; 
  • Preparation and publishing of quarterly cluster position paper; 
  • Undertaking any other responsibility that is assigned.

 

April 2022 to April 2023: Worked as Policy Research Analyst- The Kenya Private Sector Alliance.

 

My primary responsibilities entailed, but were not limited to the following;

  • Assist in researching, and drafting written reports for internal and external use based on guidelines provided by the supervisor. 
  • Assist in maintaining and updating the Kenya Macroeconomic database 
  • Liaise with PPD officers on sectorial updates to feed in policy papers, reports and presentations on sectorial issues. 
  • Help in undertaking research and surveys that provide data and information required for the periodic business & market intelligence reports, and economic & market surveys. 
  • Review newspapers on a regular basis to identify any upcoming bills or legislative matters under consideration. 
  • Initial preparation of articles for magazines, publications, speeches and presentations.
  • Communicate effectively with other departments to get their input into all fundraising proposals and other documentation produced in the department 
  • To undertake any other tasks as required and commensurate with the level of this position.

2021 December to February 2022: Accounts Intern- The Judiciary (Milimani Law Courts Accounts Office).

 

I gained work experience and skills on:

  • Entry of court files data into excel as a way to digitalize operations within the Accounts office.
  • Processing and organizing the court files’ data for reporting purposes.
  • Updating the Cash Book, Imprest register and processing payment vouchers.
  • Coordinating his teammates in the data entry process.

2021 August to November 2021: Research Assistant- Premium Strategies Limited.

 

I gained work experience and skills on;

  • Collection of research data from the various pension schemes’ trustees, administrators, and members.
  • Conducting one-on-one interviews of the various scheme administrators to gather in-depth qualitative data for insights.
  • Capturing of the collected data into SPSS for analysis and further processing.
  • Data analysis and reporting.
  • Working within a team of five data collectors.

 

January 2020 to April 2020: Attachment at the Supreme Court of Kenya.

 

I worked as an attaché at the Directorate of Planning and Organizational Performance of the Judiciary and gained experience in the listed areas:

  • Receiving Collating and Analysing Court Statistical Returns
  • Compilation and Preparation of Monthly and Quarterly performance reports for Courts.
  • Analysing court returns by the use of STATA- A Statistical software for Data Analysis.
  • Data Management.
  • Liaising with Court stations on matters of statistical returns.
  • Assisting in Performance Management and Measurement engagements.
