About Margaret Karuri:
I am an Independent Development and Financial Expert/Analyst consultant, with years of work experience and exposure in banking, finance, and development investment project work. Has worked with and/or on investment projects and programs funded/co-funded by a wide range of donors and development agencies in Africa and in Afghanistan including twelve (12) years with the African Development Bank, freelance consulting the EU, EIB; USAID, KfW, AFD, the World Bank, UN Agencies (IFAD, FAO), Sida etc. My work has been to leverage the effect of these various funding sources, and dynamics that help bring all stakeholders in the public and private sectors together for greater impact. Skilled in formulating, designing, assessing, and evaluating a wide range of development projects in agriculture and rural development, financial sector reforms and development, financial sector deepening through rural and microfinance initiatives that support micro-small and medium enterprises (MSME) development; Access to finance for private sector development, financing water, and sanitation sectors; livelihoods support systems and others. Experience in evaluating donor-funded projects and partnerships to determine aid effectiveness and "value for money", impact and sustainability of the outcomes, including, advocating, for/and supporting both short and long-term institutional and policy reforms, in addressing constraints that hinder greater social and economic engagement for the majority of the socially and economically disadvantaged, and people who directly face poverty.
Experience
Has worked for Twelve (12) years with the African Development Bank, Nine (9) years with Kenya Commercial Bank Group, and since 2004 as a freelance consultant with different donors funded projects and programs including the EU, EIB; USAID, KfW, AFD, the World Bank, UN Agencies (IFAD, FAO), Sida, etc.
