DEPUTY MONITORING OFFICER- January 2020 to date.

International NGO Safety Organization(INSO)

Responsibility- 

·        In charge of Nairobi, Coast, Central, Western, Nyanza, ASAL, and Lower Eastern regions, where I am tasked with supporting the humanitarian community with analysis and advisory as far as safety and security are concerned. 

·        Establish and maintain active information networks with NGOs and national and international security actors to obtain credible and relevant safety information. The task includes making entry of security incidents into the Center for Humanitarian Data Center (CHDC) according to INSO standards and utilizing the database for analytical purposes.

·        Proactively collect information relevant to NGO safety and security through the acquired networks and share the information with regional offices.

·        Conduct regular visits to the field to gather information and updates on emerging security dynamics and correspondingly adjust analysis and advisory given to agencies.

·        Provide NGOs with timely and credible security information and contextual analysis of the local security situation through the delivery of INSO services, which include flash alerts & reports and monthly analytical reports.

·        Assist NGOs in developing their security management capacities by developing and reviewing policy documents, conducting site-security surveys, and assisting in crisis evacuation planning.

·        Support the Head of Mission in preparing a Country Security brief for the Country Director’s forum, and in his absence, represent him by conducting the brief.

·        Manage, orient, supervise, and work performance appraisals for field monitors in Coast, Nairobi, Western, Nyanza, Narok/Nakuru regions.

·        Provide technical backstopping to field teams when respective Deputy Monitoring Offices are on leave.

·        Represent, promote, and protect INSO mandate and independence, impartiality, and neutrality.

·        Support country office in admin and finance-related tasks.

 


 

 

OPERATIONS OFFICER- June 2013 to December 2019

Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) Kenya-Security Risk Management Office.

Responsibilities

  • Open source media monitoring, verifying, and recording incidents into a database according to GIZ standards. 
  • Drafting and publishing flash alerts on security incidents that may affect the operations of GIZ activities across the country. 
  • Respond to incoming queries and liaise with Security Risk Management Advisors on the appropriate action.
  • Initiate response to security incidents affecting GIZ/KFW staff alongside Security Risk Management Advisor and manage to a fortunate conclusion.
  • Record, update, and monitor trends of security incidents affecting staff, and share the report with corporate security at the headquarters. 
  • Update staff emergency contacts and necessary security documentation.  
  • Research security and political developments to assess trends, changing security dynamics, and emerging threats. 
  • Work closely with Security Risk Management Advisor in drafting and publishing bi-weekly security updates. 
  • Coordinate a 24/7 operations office, manage leave plans, and mentor six Operations Officers.
