John Ng'eng'e

My name is John Ngugi Ng’eng’e,  a holder of a
bachelors of commerce banking and Finance (Second Upper) degree from
Kenyatta University and am currently pursuing an MBA (Finance) in the same
University. Am a former Head of Credit Administration at Co-operative bank of
Kenya. I hold extensive experience in Credit Management having worked for
most of my banking career (with Co-operative bank-15 years)
in credit. The last six were been in Head office in Credit Administration
supporting over 140 Branches and a portfolio of over KES 180 Billion.

(2014-2015) Head of Credit Administration department (Co-op Bank) with a team
of 37 staff rendering service to a hundred and forty branches in the
country

1. Crafting plans and implementing plans for Credit Administration transformation within
co-operative bank.
2. Crafting Departmental policy manuals, securing sign offs by all stake holders and
Board of management Approvals.
3. Operationalizing new units within credit Administration; creating Key Performance
indicators and daily Monitoring staff performance.
4. Creating workflow management tools to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in
service delivery.
5. Creating robust credit control mechanisms that do not hamper turnaround time.
6. Creating Quality Assurance mechanisms and performing quality assurance checks to
ensure that there is an excellent balance between quality and speed.
7. Holding meeting and discussion with various stake holders to secure buying in, while
imbedding process changes; ironing out areas of challenges; receiving feedback for
process enhancement and communicating our expectations for more fruitful
relationships.
8. Representing the department in fortnight Credit Management Divisional Meetings to
review and update on performance progress and assignment closure.
9. Creating an effective, very highly motivated and cohesive credit administration team.
10. Exposure to all Credit Management department (Retail and Corporate Analysis, Credit
Administration, Collection, and remedial through regular participation in divisional
and committee meetings where credit management plans and decisions were made.
(2008-2014) Head of collateral Management managing Co-operative banks

1. Leading and supervising a team of five staff.
2. Management of all securities held by the bank.
3. Custody of securities for Head office departments, that is, Corporate, Co-operatives,
Agribusiness, Mortgage finance, Asset Finance, Stabex and all Non-performing loan
accounts.
4. Ensuring insurance, payment of rates and rents and securities revaluation diaries are
maintained and honored.
5. Monitoring facilities to ensure that they are adequately covered throughout their
credit life.
6. Monitoring Structured and commodity finance and authorizing the release of
commodities in conjunction with commodity finance department.
7. Monitoring of securities input into the banks MIS by branches upon security perfection
by legal Department.
8. Undertaking securities audit for securities held in branches.
9. Ensuring that the security release process remained robust, risk free and efficient.

(2000-2008) Micro Credit Business Development Officer with over 8 years’

experience

1. Prospecting for new and repeat micro credit assets.
2. Analyzing micro credit borrowing proposals and preparing micro credit loan
documentation.

3. Monitoring my micro credit loan portfolio to ensure performance as per contracts and
Micro Credit Policy.
4. Recovery of a sizable loan portfolio.
