Ivy Gikonyo

In my previous role as a social worker intern, I had the opportunity to work with individuals and families facing financial hardships and complex mental health and social issues. My responsibilities included updating students' portals, conducting regular home visits, mentoring the students and collaborating with other departments to ensure coordinated care. One of my proudest achievements was to accompany international visitors and sponsors during the domiciliary visits for them to evangelize to the families.

As per my university training at Strathmore University, I have learnt about diplomacy which has built my capability in conducting myself as a professional. I have also conducted my research on the role of regional and international organizations in fighting violent extremism in Africa. Additionally, as a French student, I have been the class coordinator and this helped me to horn my leadership skills and I learnt the importance of working as a team. As part of my course, I did my community service at a children's home and my internship as a social worker that enabled me to boost my interpersonal and communication skills, mentorship as well as effective time management.
