George Wanyama

I am a graduate, BSc. Chemistry option from Moi University, Kenya with an upper Second-Class Honors and currently serving as a Research Officer at the International Livestock Research

Working under the direct supervision of the Project leader for the Climate Change Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) program, I am intensively involved in the planning, coordinating and actual execution of soil and air sampling and analysis, laboratory instrument installation, calibration and maintenance, SOP/ Work Instructions writing and implementation, analytical method development and budgeting and procuring for the environmental research laboratory among other things. Six years prior to joining the Institute, I had been intensively involved in the pharmaceuticals and Pesticides industry as a Quality Control laboratory chemist and an In-process Quality Controller the roles that ensured production of quality pharmaceutical and pest control products and increased sales. 

My strength in Qualitative as well as Quantitative chemical analysis rests on a vast experience on such analytical techniques as HPLC, GC, IR, Laser IR and UV/ VIS Spectroscopy.

Am an expert chemist, seasoned with over 16 years’ experience in Research and development through the use of acquired scientific skills, writing competitive proposals and extended knowledge base in ISO requirements for R&D.

Hands-on experience in various organizations in:

• Laser Infrared Spectroscopy (Piccarro, Li-Cor 850 and Los Gatos Research (LGR) models); Environmental analysis of CO2, N2O, NH3 and CH4 greenhouse gases

• GC (Shimadzu, Varian and SRI models); Quality Control analysis of

Pesticides and Pharmaceuticals Formulations and residues.

• IR (Shimadzu model); Quality Control analysis of raw materials for

pharmaceuticals

• UV/ VIS Spectroscopy (EPOCH Microplate Reader, Shimadzu model);

Quality Control analysis of Pesticides and Pharmaceuticals Formulations and residues and Ammonium and Nitrate determination in microplates.

• Field Installation of LICOR Eddy Covariance Flux Towers for quantifying trace gas fluxes from the African Savannah

• Automatic and Manual Chambers for CO2 , N2O, and CH4 greenhouse gas measurements

• Field installation and maintenance of weather stations (Decagon and Metre Group models)

• HPLC (Shimadzu, Varian and Knauer models); Formulation analysis of pesticides and pharmaceuticals

• LC & GC-MS (Agilent model); 2 weeks training on usage and maintenance
