Fredrick Sengera

I am a scholar who thinks outside the box. I am a Broadcast Journalist Professional with progressive working experience in different sectors. I am proficient in communication, planning, leadership, promoting conflict resolution and at the same time I aim to promote inclusivity, diversity and tolerance. I have a record of accomplishment in planning, leading and managing projects. My contribution and success have been achieved by having a clear understanding of internal and external stakeholders’ needs to execute practical solutions. I pride at being a self-starter with initiative, drive and the capacity to spot potential and deploy it. I intend to use my skills and expertise gained over the years to continue serving under people development.

I developed an interest in media and journalism over ten years ago. As a musician, I was intrigued by what goes into audio production and video production. I was perplexed at the amount of liaising needed with presenters for music production airing on radio or television. I set out to become a communication officer and a social media specialist.

Although conversant with traditional media such as radio, television, and newspapers due to the ever-evolving media trends, I stay acquainted with new media through monitoring new social apps and seeking education in institutions of higher learning; forming the basis for why I joined Daystar University to pursue a communication degree in journalism specializing in Electronic Media. As a result, I graduated with honors (Cum Laude) in November 2021, thus reinforcing my ability to grasp ideas quickly and teach my peers and colleagues courtesy of my education and leadership qualities.

Through my musical career experience, volunteer work experience, and education, I have honed the crisis-solving techniques required as a communication officer. For instance in 2018, I formed a team of 5 able negotiators for a crisis meeting with our lecturer. We successfully rooted for an extension to complete an end-of-semester scriptwriting exam. Therefore, this is a skill that I have nurtured for many years.
Additionally, I have run the UncleFreezyTv YouTube channel  since 2016. In the Channel we create content in the form of music, short films, and documentaries. In charge of copywriting before dissemination and content inspection and review, ensuring that content adheres to journalistic values and company guidelines, this experience has strengthened my attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.

As a volunteer digital content creator for the Africa Music, Art, and Cultural Exhibition (AMACE23), I helped create videos and graphics that promoted the conference. Also, I assisted with marketing and outreach efforts through email campaigns, flyers, and website posts. 

With a vast knowledge of media and journalism, I am conversant with and able to develop communication strategies for various media channels. I can design and implement internal and external communication campaigns through internal newsletters, intranet, brochures, press releases, marketing leaflets, flyers, and posters.

I have developed proficiency in various aspects of the field. My educational background has equipped me with excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Kiswahili. Moreover, my experience working as a Broadcast Journalist has honed my ability to connect with diverse audiences and tell compelling stories.
