CAREER OBJECTIVE

Detail-oriented bench researcher with substantial background in Clinical chemistry hematology flowcytometry, molecular biology and immunlogy seeks an assistant researcher position with a major hospital, or chemical or medical corporation.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

    Eight years’ bench experience within academic research environments, with firm command of all laboratory setup, planning, research, and reporting protocols.

    Excellent oral and written communication skills in English leveraged to effectively describe research statuses and findings to stakeholders and at

scientific conferences.

    Skilled in training undergraduate and graduate students in safe laboratory research and maintenance procedures.

    Willingly work weekends and overtime to ensure optimal project outcomes.

Work Experience

15th August 2012 to DateWorking at Kemri/Walter Reed Project Kericho as Assistant Research Officer.

DUTIES

    Separating, aliquots and archives patient serum/plasma for long term frozen storage and easy retrieval.

    Performing tests and sample analysis in processing viable PBMCs for long term frozen storage and easy retrieval, Immunology (Flow Cytometry and Intracellular Cytokine Staining), Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Parasitological (blood parasites) and Urinalysis.

    Verifying the validity of all submitted samples for specimen acceptability, label and evaluate correct specimen for the tests requested.

    Performing calibration, standardization and routine preventive maintenance on laboratory instruments such as centrifuges, microscopes, incubators, analyzers, refrigerators, freezers, in accordance with the established procedures, protocols and schedules as applicable.

    Troubleshoot equipment and test system(s) failures.

    Performing Quality Control and Quality Assurance activities.

    Performing intermachine validation.

    Operating automated/Semi automated analyzers and manual equipment as applicable.

    Reviewing test results for accuracy and consistency, correlating results with patients’

conditions.

    Notifying the appropriate health professionals on critical / panic values or questionable results that require verification or re-collection of samples

 Maintaining laboratory records and filing system of patient information, equipment and tests results to comply with regulations.

    Entering results in information system.

    Assisting in writing and revising of the technical procedures and manuals.

    Maintaining inventory of equipment and monitor laboratory supply levels and assist in re- ordering and inventorying supplies

    Complying with all relevant safety and infection control policies and procedures.

    Ensuring tidiness of laboratory rooms, benches and proper housekeeping.

    Supervising or training medical laboratory students and interns.
