Education / Training
About Emma Kibunja Barack:
I am a social worker and education specialist with over years of experience working in humanitarian settings, committed to empowering vulnerable communities through education and support services.
My passion for social justice and human rights has driven me to work in environments where access to basic education and mental health services is a critical need. Witnessing the resilience of communities facing crises continues to fuel my determination to make a difference.
I have had the privilege of designing and implementing educational programs for displaced children, developing trauma-informed care strategies for families, and advocating for policy change in conflict zones. My role has often involved coordinating with local NGOs, governments, and international organizations to ensure that vulnerable populations receive the necessary support to rebuild their lives.
The challenges in these environments are vast, from limited resources to cultural differences, but they have deepened my empathy and creativity. I’ve learned to approach each situation with flexibility, always striving to listen to the community’s needs and adapt my strategies accordingly.
One of my proudest moments was working with a team to launch a literacy program for refugee children, which helped thousand of students continue their education despite the displacement. Seeing the impact of these efforts, from improved academic performance to increased confidence in the students, was incredibly rewarding.
In the future, I aim to continue advocating for the integration of mental health services within educational programs in crisis settings. By combining education with psychological support, we can help individuals not only rebuild their futures but heal from past trauma.
Experience
I have worked in various sectors both in camp and urban locations around Sub-Saharan Africa. My experience is around social work, Education and a bit of the medical work. In addition I have also worked with vulnerable groups of persons of concern of different ages. In addition I have also worked in a bank as an accounts Executive and also in a college as a Marketing person and career counselor. I have worked for eighteen years in the different sectors.
