Duties and responsibilities.

• Completing head-to-toe assessment and re-assessment of patients to identify their care needs
• Administering medication safely, monitoring patient responses to medication, and promptly report reactions
• Developing written care plans based on patient's needs, monitor and evaluate
• the effectiveness of interventions
• Preparing for and assisting physicians to perform various procedures such as Lumbar Puncture and insertion of invasive lines
• Documentation of all assessment data, investigation results, care given, discussing with the multidisciplinary team, and family/patient interactions in an accurate, comprehensive, and timely manner
• Maintaining and enforce infection control standards per the hospital manual and observing the infection control bundles (SSI, VAP, CAUTI and CLABSI) where applicable
• Dispose of clinical and non-clinical waste safely under mediheal Hospital Guidelines on waste management
• Assisting patients with activities of daily living such as feeding, bathing, and dressing
•  Carrying out hemodynamic monitoring to include vital signs, neurological and fluid status; labs, and radiological evaluations
•  
• Ensuring patients' safety following the 6 International Patient Safety Goals (IPSGs) (patient identification, effective communication, safety of high alert medication, ensuring correct site procedure and surgery, reducing the risk of healthcare-associated infections, reducing the risk of patient harm resulting from falls)
• Carrying out pre and post-operative care for the surgical patient
• Caring for the psychiatry patient as per policy on Psychiatry Care.
• Maintaining adequate airway management to include oxygen therapy, nebulization, and suctioning
• Promptly reporting both clinical and non-clinical unusual findings/incidences to the nurse manager, team leader and physician
• Identifying patient and family education needs and implementing appropriate teaching
• Providing a safe environment for patients through adherence to infection control practices and other safety policies.
• Care for equipment through cleaning, storage, per shift check of the inventory, and timely reporting and follow-up of nonfunctional equipment to the nurse manager and bio-medical department

• Acting as patient advocates, ensuring privacy, dignity and confidentiality are met

• Following the discharge procedure of assigned patients according to hospital protocol, and ensuring follow-up appointments are made

Duties and responsibilities

•  Ensuring proper inventory of the available equipment on a daily basis and ensure that they are in good working condition.
• Reporting any malfunction to Bio-Medical Technician/Unit Manager.
• Ensuring the unit is financially viable and demonstrating growth through; a) Offering quality care to patients and Ensuring financial objectives are met by managing costs within budget, timely and accurate billing of drugs and services and ensuring that proper pre-authorisations and documentation has been done.
• Recording all sentinel incidents/events and report within24 hours usingthe provided tools
• Daily compilation of government reports and submitting them to the Unit Manager (leprosy, cholera, maternal deaths neonatal deaths)
• Supervising patient attendants as per their job description Active participation in ward rounds and receiving handover reports from the outgoing nurse on shift
• Ensuring recording and safekeeping of patient valuables
• Proper documentation of patient notes and review; consulting with fellow clinicians, and consultants when need be.
• Ensuring that all diagnostic requests (lab and radiology) have the patient’s clinical information, and following up on the results from the lab and radiology unit
• Providing patient and family education/teaching applicable to the patient's medical condition. Discussing patient concerns and answering questions relevant to care.
• Prioritization of patient needs in a documented nursing care plan.
• Organizing emergency trolley for easy use during resuscitation, drugs and supplies are well stocked, damaged equipment is removed and reported promptly keeping and updating Checklists every month, and as needed.
• Updating doctors/consultants on patient’s progress and any critical values as soon as they are available
• Performing all invasive nursing procedures under aseptic technique including wound dressing, IV catheter insertion, urinary catheter insertion, NGT insertion, etc
• Completing official checklists for all patients to procedures (theatre, radiology, renal)
• Ensuring patient privacy and confidentiality are maintained at all times, as per policy.
• Participating in emergency responses per BLS guidance
• Drug administration; by Adhering to the 10 rights of drug administration (right patient, medication, dosage, route, time, documentation, client education, assessment, evaluation, and client refusal of treatment), Keeping D.D.A. drugs safe and drug register properly per unit requirements Ensuring all treatment sheets have patients biodata including information on drug allergies
• Adhere to Government and respective professional standards of care and treatment of patients as guided by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
• Covering the Unit Manager when required.
• Client satisfaction- ensuring client satisfaction through optimal quality of care, effective communication, timely feedback, and escalation of unresolved issues to the Unit Manager and demonstrating follow-up and improvement.

• Providing general health care services including Antenatal care services and conducting deliveries and dispensing drugs at CCC
