My name is Millicent Adhiambo Otieno, an ongoing MA Communication student at Daystar University.
I am a member of PRSK (Public Relations Society of Kenya), having gained valuable experience communicating key messages to a variety of audiences through strategic writing. I also hold a BA in Journalism, with a major in Broadcast Media and Public Relations from United States International University - Africa, giving me expertise in content creation and storytelling across different channels. My writing skills were further honed during my time as a semi-finalist on The Great Debaters of Kenya reality show, where I had to think on my feet and craft compelling arguments.
In addition to traditional writing, I am well-versed in social media and digital marketing. As a social media enthusiast and former digital marketer/sales officer, I have managed social media accounts and implemented strategic campaigns to engage targeted demographics. These range from hospitality, service industry, advertising company, shipping and logistics company, food and beverage, and many more. I am also a member of the International Association of Paid Writers and Editors, staying up-to-date on the latest trends and best practices.
I also own a certificate in Digital Skills for Africa's course provided by Google. What I believe makes me an excellent fit for select roles is my ability to work diligently both independently and as part of a team. Through previous roles, I have demonstrated an ability to juggle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines while maintaining a high standard of quality. I am always seeking opportunities to expand my expertise and take on new challenges.

Experience
As a digital marketing intern at a media house (MEDIAMAX K24), I gained valuable experience in content creation, search engine optimization and social media management. I have and still am applying my writing expertise to produce high-quality articles to date for various clients, ensuring they were optimized for search and shared effectively online. Through diligent work supporting the marketing team's initiatives, I demonstrated strong teamwork skills and a keen interest in digital platforms.
In my next role as a digital marketer for a travel and lifestyle brand,(BOBU AFRICA), I expanded my knowledge of performance marketing and analytics. I executed successful social media campaigns that grew the brand's online presence. As a marketing specialist promoted in the same company, I provided strategic guidance and reporting to showcase my analytical abilities. My dedicated approach strengthened the brand's digital presence and customer engagement across multiple channels.
As sales and marketing officer then head of marketing at an advertising agency(TIME TRADE KENYA), I led account management and new business development. I consistently exceeded sales targets through professional client relationships and creative proposals. A promotion made me head of marketing, meaning I managed a high-performing team while developing new service offerings. My expertise in digital strategies and proven record of success elevated the agency's profile and revenues.
Most recently, my roles as administrative assistant then sales officer at another advertising agency(ADSPOT) demonstrated versatility and strong work ethic. I provided vital support to operations while assisting with sales pitches and client onboarding. My diligent and dedicated approach ensured the smooth running of day-to-day activities, continued to contribute my skills and experience to any marketing or client-facing position.
Currently a Master of Corporate Communications student.
Education
I got my KCSE Certificate from Juja Preparatory and Senior Schools.
I recently completed the Google Digital Marketing certificate through their Digital Skills for Africa program. It was a fantastic introductory course that covered all the key areas of digital marketing including search, social media, email, and more. I really enjoyed learning about the data and analytics behind online campaigns. It gave me hands-on experience with tools like Google Ads and helped me understand how businesses can effectively promote themselves online.
Currently, I am a student at Daystar University pursuing a Master's degree in Communications. I'm about halfway through the program and am focusing my studies on social media strategies and content creation. I find it fascinating to analyze real world case studies and learn how brands are connecting with people in this digital age.
Prior to that, I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Journalism from United States International University Africa. My major was Broadcast Media and Public Relations. During my undergrad, I developed strong writing and communication skills through classes and internships. I enjoyed learning about the ins and outs of both traditional and new media. My degree provided a solid foundation for a career focused on digital platforms and marketing. I now pursue Masters with a specialization in Media Studies.
