Yvonne Barasa

I recently completed my undergraduate education at Moi University and awaiting to graduate with a degree in Bachelor of Science communication and public relations. I have substantially covered and developed skills in strategic planning and communication, writing press releases and reports as well as knowledge on digital marketing and running social media campaigns. 

My first professional experience was at Kenya Broadcasting Corporation where I played the role a radio production intern under the supervion of a producer running a current affairs program called matukio ya taifa. My duties involved Research, sourcing for the latest stories online, collection of audio materials from the field, scripting,editing and coming up with headlines for the stories. Since I was scripting for a swahili program,my job also involved translation from English to Kiswahili but with the introduction of the English version of this program I had to do translations from swahili to English. With the incorporation of a whole new program to produce, I was able to discharge my duties with great versatility. The job required me to put in extra hours so as to be part of the actual production which entailed booking the studio to pre record the day's script, supervising the audio editing process to ensure that the correct audios from the field,standard introduction and midcues have been inserted for the program to be ready to air at 7:30 pm. I was also able to conduct guest relations and train new interns who came after me.

I recently completed a 4 year study in communication and public relations at Moi University. During my time there I was able to successfully run a public relations campaign on sanitation and did a research project based on depression among university students. I have been able to study and acquire skills on strategic public relations, organizational behavior, leadership, communication laws and ethics, persuasion in public relations, digital advertising , entrepreneurship, corporate media relations, communication aesthetics among others.
