- Site Engineer - Vapco Construction Co. Ltd – (March 2019 – April 2022)
Outline
Vapco construction company limited is a NCA 1 registered contracting company based in Mombasa. I worked as a site engineer in the construction of 3 major industries detailed (a, b& c) below. A personal highlight for me during this period was to work closely with different stakeholders from various departments, this diversified my skillset and experience not only in civil engineering but also in mechanical, electrical and many other areas as well.
- Construction of the 5000 tonnes per day; Mombasa Cement Line II – Kilifi County - (March- June 2019, Aug-Sep 2019)
Key Achievements and responsibilities
- Oversaw the setting out, construction and handover of 2 load center buildings.
- Supervised the construction of 9 complete conveyor lines and 13 cable gallery foundations.
- Worked hand in hand with the company Quantity Surveyor during preparations and drafting of quotations and bills for the areas I was in charge of.
- Prepared weekly Sub Contractor bills for labour payment purposes.
- Designed and oversaw construction of minor and temporary structures for company use, for example; Temporary servant quotas.
- Construction of Devki Steel Mills- Samburu – Kilifi County - (June 2019)
My period here was a short stint before being recalled back to Mombasa Cement for an emergency work. However, I was privileged to be in charge of the construction of 1 weighbridge substructure to completion and inspection of several other main structures such as the kiln and one warehouse which have since been completed.
- Constructions of the Vipingo Industries (vegetable cooking oil and soap production plant) – Kilifi County - (Sep 2019 – April 2022)
Key Achievements and responsibilities
- Supervision as the lead site engineer during the construction and handover of the following civil structures; double storey substation building, refinery building, industrial water treatment plant, the waste water treatment plant, boiler house building, moving floor structure, crusher building, fuel storage tunnel and shed, tank farm bases, oil warehouse, kplc switchyard structures and foundations, weighbridge substructures, pipe &cable rack foundations among many other structures.
- Was in charge of preparing bar bending schedules and making orders on inserts and necessary construction material to ensure work done conforms to the design.
- Working with the Company’s quantity surveyor to ensure monthly bills are reflective of progress on site.
- Was in charge of preparing Steel for concrete piling done by SECO Africa, on a sub contractual basic through Vapco.
- Worked and in hand with site manager to ensure proper management and division of labor to ensure maximum output whilst ensuring employee safety.
2. Amut Engineering Solutions Limited (May 2022 – to date)
Outline
Amut engineering solutions limited is a NCA 6 registered startup company based in Mombasa. I concurrently act as director and also lead engineer for our projects.
Key Achievements and Work done
- Paving blocks installations for various private entities within the Kenyan coast region.
- Architectural and structural house designs for various clients subject to approvals from registered professionals.
- Preparing quotations and bill of quantities for various projects.
- Building repairs and renovations including plumbing, electrical, painting and interior décor works for various clients.
3. Attachment at Mombasa Water Supply & Sanitation Company Limited – (June – August, 2017)
Key Achievements and responsibilities
- Took part in the preparation of Non-Revenue Water report for Mombasa County for the period 2016-2017 under the guidance of the Head Engineer.
- Worked hand in hand with the Head engineer in design and constructions of simple structures to facilitate improved water supply to Nyali and Kisauni constituencies in Mombasa.
- Performed regular random water quality tests under guidance of the chief chemist at the Coast water Service Board laboratory to ensure quality and safe drinking water for Mombasa residents.
4. Attachment at the County Government of Mombasa, department of transport and infrastructure – (June – August 2016)
Key achievements and responsibilities
- During this period, I prepared and presented daily reports on site progress to the Head Engineer. The major projects under the department during that period included; - Renovation of the Mombasa Municipal Stadium, Construction of the Buxton Flyover and the expansion the carriage way and introduction of a paved pedestrian lane on Links Road, Nyali.
