Sylvia Wairimu

I am a Water and Habitat Engineer at International Committee of the Red Cross(ICRC),currently working as Head of Energy and water Knowledge hub, a department that deals with trainings of water and habitat Engineers from the entire ICRC regions. I hold a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical and Production Engineering from Moi University with First Class Honors and a member of The Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) with licenses for CEM-in training (Certified Energy Manager) and CWEP (Certified Water Efficiency Professional) 

In my 8+ years of work experience I have work as a water and waste water treatment specialist at Davis & Shirtliff and technical utility Manager in a manufacturing company. This roles have played a major part in providing me with vast knowledge in the water and energy sector and getting to experience the challenges of working as a client receiving services,humanitarian sector and manufacturing sector and a service provider,Davis & Shirtliff.

International Committee of the Red Cross,ICRC(Sept 2022 to date)   

Position: Head of Energy and Water Knowledge Hub(Water & Habitat Engineer) 

Responsibilities

• Oversee the establishment, development, and operation of the Energy and Water Knowledge Hub(responsible for the training of Water & Habitat Engineers)
• Provides overall project management for all events organized in the Hub and ensures the achievement of their objectives, including development, implementation, and monitoring of work plans;
• Installation of practical training materials such as submersible pumps, surface pumps, basics of electricity training materials, and solar practical equipment to facilitate training practice sessions.
• Promotes parallel initiatives, such as webinars and conferences, around new technologies and sustainable use of energy and water and wastewater technologies in humanitarian operations;
• Acts as Water & habitat Knowledge Management Relay for Nairobi Delegation and the regional network;
• Contributes to written and oral reporting.

Davis & Shirtliff Ltd (July 2018 to Sept 2022)   

Position: Group Water Treatment Engineer 

Responsibilities

• Design and sell bespoke water & wastewater treatment solutions in various Davis and Shirtliff outlets in Kenya and various African countries including Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Rwanda, Zambia, etc.
• Provide energy-efficient solutions, products, and best practices to D&S customers for industrial and residential application
• Coordinate with various sales Engineers across D&S to implement projects in various African countries to ensure timely and cost-efficient projects implementation as per customer expectation
• Coordinate with other business units such as solar to provide solutions to water and sanitation in areas with no grid power supply
• Product development by continuous innovation of existing products to meet new needs and source new techniques in areas where there are product gaps.

Sameer Agriculture and Livestock Limited [Daima milk] (July 2017-July 2018)

Position:  Technical supervisor-Utility Department

The Company deals with; 

Processing of milk to the various milk products with its major brand being Daima Milk, Yoghourt, Creambell Ice cream, etc. 

Responsibilities:

• Ensure smooth operation of all utilities such as water treatment plant, Refrigeration System, Low pressure and high-pressure Air compressors, Boiler, and Effluent Treatment Plant. 
• Collection of daily operation data such as power consumption, water consumption, daily employee headcount  in line with the company’s KPIs 
• Scheduling maintenance of the utility equipment and notification of the production managers as and when production may be interrupted due to maintenance or breakdown. 
• Allocation of shifts to operators and operate the various machines when the operators are absent. 

Collaboration Engineering Solutions and Products-CESP-Kenya  (June 2015-July 2017)                    Position:  Mechanical Engineer-Projects

The company deals with; 

• Wastewater treatment technologies such as Extended Aeration, MBBR, MBR, SBR systems from JET inc. and Ecodepur, 
• Portable water systems such as Reverse osmosis, UV, and ultrafiltration. 
• Installation of water storage tanks, pumps, and other water management systems.

Responsibility

• To manage, administrate, design test, and commission projects undertaken by CESP. 
• Representing CESP at the project site and coordination meetings and timely compilation of associated reports. 
• Generation of proposal drawings, design drawings, and as-built drawings for projects 
• Maintenance and Troubleshooting of existing systems to ensure consistent service delivery to customers.
