About Simon Kimani:
Mr Simon Kimani Njoroge is a senior Geologist who have a more than 10 years practical experience in the water, sanitation and hygiene sector since the year 2010. I have for the most part of my carrier been involved in Water sources survey especially boreholes but to an extent of surface water survey. Supply and distribution after survey has been a major task. Preparation of tender documents of works and reporting on the results of the works has been my duties in addition to the field surveys. Permit applications and supervision of works has been also in my line of duty. Ground and surface water monitoring in already existing water sources have been part of my work especially where the water sources are functional, where not functional, consultation on rehabilitation has been another task. The major tasks in my current work station include the following:
- Carrying out Hydrogeological and Geophysical surveys.
- Preparation of tender documents whenever they occur
- Preparation of permit application documents and permits application.
- Ground water monitoring for boreholes.
- Supervision of drilling process by ensuring all the technical specifications are met and logging of geological samples.
- Preparation of Drilling, Equipping and Rehabilitation quotations.
- Preparation of final reports and invoices to the clients.
- Advice clients on Drilling Requirements, Procedures and Prices.
- Report writing
- Data input, analysis, evaluation and interpretation using software programme,
- Preparation of daily reports on the progress of work, problems encountered and future plans of the projects
- Project planning on financial estimation, drilling targets, logistics etc for a cost- effective running.
- Evaluation/costing of each borehole after completion
In one major undertaking With the Norwegian Refugee Council I was an assistant WASH officer in the Kakuma refugees camp (2016-2017) where my duties included:
- Monitoring water distribution and sustainable water to the POC’s
- Ensuring the water supply is not disrupted by checking on the distribution lines in the camp
- Forming water committees to ensure that water is well managed at Household levels.
- Carrying out Hygiene promotions in the Camp together with the sanitation team.
- Ensuring safety of all the working tools and coordinating inter-partners relationships through harmonization of activities
I have worked in different settings both in Kenya and outside in Somalia and in South Sudan in arid and Semi-arid areas and in security hot spot areas.
