Greetings from Nairobi,

 I am a self driven engineer who has experience in both public and private sector environment having worked for 10 years in the Ministry of Works and 21 years GIBB Africa Ltd. My experience spans from feasibility study, geotechnical surveys, residential/commercial/institutional/industrial infrastructure requirement studies, concept designs, preliminary designs, detailed designs, procurement stages support, construction supervision and handover, project management, Independent project management, Financing support, performing condition surveys studies and arbitration. 

These projects have comprised various types including building structures, bridges and drainage structures, water and waste water structures, Power transmission and substation structures, telecommunications structures and coastal structures. The projects have been carried out in various locations including Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Malawi, Eritrea, South Sudan, Ghana, Libya, South Sudan, Gabon, Malawi, Zambia, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Mauritius.

Most of the construction projects that I have been involved in have used FIDIC contracts for both Works and consultancy services. However, I have participated in other projects that have used a variation of FIDIC contracts like JICA funded ones and others that have used contracts from Joint Building Council. There are other sites where works contracts have used organization contracts like the Ministry of works in Kenya. This varied knowledge enables the project manager to quickly adopt to the site for the benefit of the client and the project.

As a Head of Department for Structures & Facilities and earlier on an operations manager, my duties have included Business/Risk planning, Work scheduling/planning, Project reviews, Contract reviews, Coordination, Quality plans implementation, Proposal preparation, Marketing, Staffing issues, Client liaison/coordination, Collaboration with local and international firms including partnerships, acting as the face of GIBB in my projects, Mentoring young engineers where many graduate engineers have been initiated to professional engineers, Preparation of Departmental reports and Day to day administration.

Other duties have included leading teams at senior levels, actual design and supervision of construction, consultancy procurement and contracting, evaluating risks and mitigating them, quality control, timely deliverables to clients, staffing and budgets control. I am therefore confident of being able to handle assignments both large and small at all stages of the project as required, delivering quality and timely services to clients that exceed their expectations, being responsible for my inputs and following the applicable local and international standards.

In my assignments, I have designed buildings, bridges and other structures using steel, concrete and timber. The Design software that I have used include Prokon, Strap, Staad, Revit, Midas, Robot, Autodesk, CADS RC, AutoCAD and Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Others softwares include web based management systems like Enterprise Resource Program, Resourceline, MS Project, Building Information modelling (BIM)system and Primavera. I have carried out resident supervision on three sites in addition to supervision through the regular site visits.

This experience gained from both public and private sector, and doing work for international clients including United Nations (Nairobi), United States International University (Nairobi), NAS Airport Services, Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) together with experience gained from working with international Funding Agencies including World Bank, AfDB, IFC, BADEA, PIDG, DFID, JICA and others in various regions of Africa gives the Client the comfort of getting quality, streamlined, well collaborated and timely deliverables.

Being able to work using various design and management softwares gives the Client confidence that  the consultant is able to utilize current technology and also can adopt other Client or required softwares easily leading to quality and timely deliverables.  The reports that will be prepared by the consultant will be of high quality and will be submitted first as drafts and later as final reports after undergoing review by the Client. The format and form of submission will be discussed in advance with the client in order to avoid back and forth cycles.

Last month I attended a conference an International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure 2023 in India, where a number of concepts on adaptation of disaster resilient infrastructure (including climate change) were shared and discussed. This was quite apt and applicable to the current situation and to this position. I therefore feel that these concepts would be very helpful when applied to the projects the client is undertaking and that I am well placed to implement them.
