About Salah Hassan :

I am a Health system specialist with over 14 years of experience in health care operations in senior management positions within diverse sectors in Kenya. Most importantly, I have been responsible for providing strategic leadership in the operational, financial and management of funds through developing and implementing strategic plans and effective management of resources to achieve the overall organization mandate and standards. 

Experience

I have wealth of experience that involved managing and overseeing health operations across different departments.  On reproductive, I have versed experience both clinical and managerial having worked as  a clinical registered nurse in reproductive health ward, head of RH/HIV program with international recue committee (IRC), sub county medical officer of health Fafi sub county, Garissa county overseeing all programs including reproductive health, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health. 

As health system specialist, I have worked in emergency humanitarian setting in one of the most populated refugee camps in Kenya (Dadaab refugee camps). During this period, I coordinated the implementation of more than 6 major donor funds including IGAD funds on HIV/reproductive health program, PEPFAR funding programs, CDC, European funded programs and other short programs. 

I am currently overseeing program reforms and quality of care services in Garissa County. In this, I oversee reforms on one level 5 hospital, 7 sub county hospital, 83 health facilities and special programs including reproductive health, maternal, new born, child and adolescent health (RMNCAH), HIV/TB, Nutrition, Non communicable disease (NCDs) among others. My immediate position was deputy director nursing services in Garissa County overseeing nursing department that is the core department on the provision of quality RH services. I also shortly worked as deputy county TB and leprosy coordinator for Garisa. 

 I was chief executive officer (CEO) at Garissa county referral and teaching hospital which serves as the main referral institution for 5 neighboring counties and the three refugee camps in Dadaab managing an average human resource of 500. Prior to the CEO post, I served as sub county medical officer of health (SCMOH) in charge of 13 health centers and one sub county hospital in the ministry of health with an average human resource of 120 staffs. During this period I was a warded the best SCMOH based on interventions of RMNCAH indicator in Fafi sun county. Programs coordinated include clinical care, maternal newborn and child health, TB/RH/HIV/AIDs services, nutrition and general out patients/inpatient services through strengthening of the six major pillars of health system management. I shortly worked as health program officer with Mercy USA in the larger Garissa County in a nutrition program in support of MOH, Garissa County on health and nutrition programing. 

Additionally I worked as RH/HIV/TB senior program officer with IRC (international rescue committee) for a program that provided comprehensive care and support for PLWHA, HTC, MARPs and healthy choices for the youth in and out of school, nutritional support for most vulnerable people including people living with HIV/AIDS, children under five and support for Most at risk population in Dadaab refugee camp. During this period, I successfully managed PEPFAR/CDC and IGAD funded project for five years.

My work experience with partners on reproductive health and support programs has given me an edge on RH support supervision, assessment and reporting. I have also participated in RH surveys, data analysis as Monitoring evaluation technical person and support supervision. My experience in norther frontier district (NFD) has exposed me in hardship areas across the country. I am current a member of maternal and perinatal death surveillance and response (MPDSR) committee for  Garissa county.
