I am a highly dedicated health promotion and community health professional with a passion for further exploring my career experience. Some of the skills I have gained includes; environmental public health, community health, mother and child health care, and public relations in community development. Highlights of my experience include; administering family planning drugs, vaccines to both newborns and children at the MCH, giving health talks on the importance of family planning and its benefits, giving out health educational talks to patients on various diseases both at the out-patient and maternity as well as participating in community outreaches in various areas around Mrima in administering medical support to those who could not reach the health facility. Duties and Responsibilities
The scope of work entailed data collection and analysis on factors contributing to the spread of malaria in the Mrima area, health education both in schools, community, and in the hospital, and assisting in various departments at the hospital.
- Recorded mother and child clinic books and writing of weekly reports.
- Assisted in administering family planning drugs, giving health talks on the importance of family planning and its benefits.
- Assisted in checking of weights of both mother and child, the pressure of the mother, temperature, and also giving health talks on various topics.
- Educated various schools on waterborne diseases (malaria and typhoid) and sanitization.
- Participated in interactive community outreaches that were done around the mrima area which helped me in collecting my data by use of questionnaires and interviewing.
Medical Intern
Mrima Hospital Mombasa; May to June 2018
Duties and Responsibilities
The health promotion and community health attachment allowed me to apply the knowledge learned in class by giving out the health education talks, participating in community activities, and as well to intervene in primary health care activities.
- Administered vaccines to both newborns and children at the MCH.
- Administered ARVs drugs and TB drugs at the CCC department together with health education talks to the patients on the importance of taking the drugs and on how to prevent the spreading of the disease.
- Administered vitamin A drugs and checking of children's nutritional progress at the nutrition department.
- Gave out health educational talks to patients on various diseases both at the out-patient and maternity.
- Participated in community outreaches in various areas around Mrima in administering medical support to those who could not reach the health facility.
- Participated in food inspection in the shika-adabu area with the help of my supervisor by visiting various eateries (local restaurants) and shops.
- Gave health education talks to various schools on adolescence, HIV/AIDS, and handwashing topics.
- Participated in a teenage pregnancy workshop done in Mrima hospital.
