NICODEMUS MAINGI is recognized as a Co-creation, an Action and Collaborative Researcher, Transformation Leader and Catalyst, having successfully collaboratively designed and delivered on various projects, leading progressive conversations with various stakeholders including  Strathmore University, Hewlett-Packard (HP), USAID, Chemonics Pharma, Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDS), Kenya’s National AIDS/STI Control Program (NASCOP), Rockefeller Foundation, Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), and The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI).

Maingi is a deeply experienced Co-Creator, Action and Collaborative Researcher, Transformation Leader and Catalyst and seasoned practitioner with over 15 years’ experience. He has worked closely with the Government of Kenya (GOK) and international donors such as USAID and Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) to conceptualize solutions that improve health practices. Successfully co-created projects delivered include the Early Infant Diagnosis (EID) tool whose use has resulted in reduced infant mortality and improved care for Infants Living with HIV/AIDS; a solution that has been scaled to improve the quality of life for millions across Africa and Asia.

He currently serves as an Advisor to the Counties of Nairobi and Mombasa, advising on broader operations strategy adoption, risk analysis and organizational technology readiness, in support of their Digital Transformation Agenda. His impact footprint spans Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, South Africa, Nigeria and India.

As the Founding Director of the HP Lab at one of the leading private universities in East and Central Africa, Maingi was recognized for his collaborative research and co-creating prowess, strategic and entrepreneurial mindset, having nurtured team growth from 2 students/youth to 82, with most of these being absorbed by the various projects post proof-of-concept phases, hence affording them opportunities for dignified work.

He has delivered consistent results across various co-created projects and workstreams, positioning the Lab as an admired key revenue center at Strathmore University. 

Maingi is a member of the Special Programs Committee at ISACA Kenya Chapter, and is the immediate former Chair to the Board of Trustees, Strathmore Staff Provident Fund, having served a member population of over 1,000 and overseeing a fund that grew in value to the north of USD. 15 Million.

Maingi values collaborative research and co-creation, operational efficiency, relationship building, design and systems thinking and innovation; and he challenges the status quo to embrace the future today.

Experience

NICODEMUS MAINGI is a deeply experienced Co-Creator, Co-Innovator, Action and Collaborative Researcher and Operations practitioner with over 15 years’ experience. It has been implemented and deployed across the African continent - in Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Nigeria, with expansion planned to Asia – India, amongst other targets. Co-creating to solve real world problems at scale, is key.

Maingi is the Founding Director of The HP-Strathmore Research Laboratory (HP Lab) and has been a core faculty member for more than 15 years within the School of Computing and Engineering Sciences (SCES) at one of the leading private universities in East and Central Africa, Strathmore University, where he is currently completing his PhD in Informatics. 

In 2023, Maingi was invited to be a Board Member of the Nairobi County Industry Advisory Board (IAB). He also serves as a Member of the Technical Advisory Team, advising the Office of the County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Health, the County of Mombasa. Both assignments lean on his expertise in driving well-grounded research to inform both counties’ ambitious and transformative agendas.
