About Michelle Onserio:

My name is Michelle Nyaboke Onserio and I am an Advocate with a keen interest in corporate/commercial law.

Studying at Strathmore University gave me opportunities to acquire the requisite knowledge, skills, values and attitudes which have laid a firm foundation throughout my academic and social life. I have learnt how to interact with various stakeholders, enabling me to integrate in a diverse environment. Participating in community service gave me a glimpse of part of the reality in our society that my profession could address. For instance, social inequality relating to providing education and food as a right to underprivileged children, who otherwise would not have access to education. Having gained some experience working in 2 law firms and undertaking judicial attachment at kikuyu law courts, I have gained invaluable skills such as research, drafting, critical thinking and problem solving and peoples’ skills. I understand the value of discipline, hard work and team work. I Possess the competency of learning to learn and this exposes me to continuous learning.

My hobbies and Interests also play a huge role in my character. My love for outdoor activities such as hiking, jogging, game drives and social activities in nature not only provide me with opportunities to improve my social skills, but also build resilience that is needed in the word today.

I am looking for a challenging employment opportunity that allows me to explore my full potential, grow my skills, apply my learnings while at the same time allowing for innovation, creativity and opportunity for career development.

Experience

I gained some experience in civil and criminal litigation during my judicial attachment at Kikuyu law courts. This is as a result of my participation in court proceedings and assisting the clerk in handling and preparing individual files. During the same period, I was charged with the responsibility of keying in data and dealing with the concerns of clientele of the court such as complaints and filling in relevant documentation on various issues. This enabled me to sharpen my communication and interpersonal skills.

In addition, having previously worked at a law firm as an intern, I dealt with different clientele, attended court proceedings, prepared case summaries, drafted various documents such as demand letters, carried out research on legal related issues and attended meetings with the partner involving clients of the law firm. Moreover, part of my studies involved a dissertation that required carrying out a study in the judicial system. My study focused on the Nakuru Environment and Land court during which period I gained immense experience in carrying out research and writing skills. Through these processes, I gained legal research and people skills.

Lastly, my experience working at another firm which specializes in Banking, Conveyancing, Corporate and Commercial law, expanded my skills to a greater level. Having had previous experience working in a law firm, it was not difficult to ease into the firm’s operations. I drafted various documents among them being, different types of Agreements, Charges, Debentures and Leases. I also carried out research on various legal problems which enabled me to enhance my legal knowledge across board. I also interacted with different clientele, and therefore accorded me an opportunity to network.

I am a professional with an ability to adapt to different situations, innovative as it takes to deliver objectives, committed to aligning work to the organisation strategy, great at building healthy work relationships, passionate about teamwork and easily integrates in a culturally diverse work environment.
