Martin Karani

I am a Kenyan aged 37 years with 13 years’ experience working in the banking industry in Kenya.

I am currently working as acting Head of Product and Processes at Salaam Microfinance Bank Kenya (SMBK).

Prior to this I was instrumental in the market entry of parent company Salaam African Bank (SAB, largest bank in Djibouti) into Kenya through SMBK as Project Manager and Consultant.

Previously I worked as a Senior Associate - Strategy, Monitoring and Transformation at Sidian Bank. Prior to that I was Manager Business Intelligence and Analytics as well as Project Manager at Chase Bank Kenya.

My roles have been in the following functional areas

1. Analytics: product performance and customer analytics, business and sales performance management, lead generation, business case evaluation for new opportunities, budgeting and forecasting, scenario testing, etc.
2. Project management: execution of full life cycle from initial planning and documentation to benefits review (post implementation) including product development projects.
3. Change management and business process re-engineering/optimization.
4. Strategy: development, cascade, change management, organizational transformation, monitoring & evaluation, problem solving and research.

I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Actuarial Science and a Master of Science degree in Project Management, both from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. I am also a certified Project Manager (PRINCE2 Practitioner).
