Responsibilities

1.QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS

•  Receiving and preparation of milled tobacco samples from the factory. Weighing of 0.25g of sample, addition of 25mls of distilled water and transferring the filtrate in a test-tube.

• Loading and determination of total sugars and nicotine in tobacco samples using SKALAR SAN PLUS ANALYZER.

• Preparation of daily used standards and reagents such as 0.1M NaOH,0.1 Benzoic acid, Buffers, Potassium Cyanide solution and many more. 

2.QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS

• Determination of moisture content in tobacco samples using METTLER ANALYZER and oven. These samples include lamina, by- products (stems, fines and fibers) and samples obtained at various stages in the factory including laydown area, blending tables area, tips entry and exit, primary cylinder entry and exit points, secondary cylinder entry and exit points and lamina cooling areas.

• Tobacco research and sampling. Sorting of tobacco from various farms according to soils and plots treatment using certain fertilizers and qualitative and quantitative analysis in the laboratory.

• Determination of particle size distribution of how the lamina is cut by threshers using PSD shaker. This should be cut into 1 inch,1/2-inch,1/4 inch and 1/8 inch.

• Determination of number of stems present in lamina (SIL) using RO-TAP machine.

3.ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY

• Writing of various work permits including general work permits, work at height permits and other permits. This include proper analysis of sequence of basic job to be done, identification of the potential hazards and its effects to the employees, person and number of workers involved and recommended actions and control measures to minimize those hazards to occur.
• Clear identification of required PPEs to be worn during a specific job including helmets, safety boots, gloves, overall, earplugs and dust masks.

Responsibilities

• Execute and ensure sales targets are met I attained this through regular clients’ visits including doctors, nurses and pharmacists to develop good relationship, ensuring products availability to clients, and being involved in promotional activities of pharmaceutical products.

• Customer recommendation and resolution: Advice customers on importance of using the existing products as well as new ones and help in addressing arising issues and obtaining resolution to customers complains.

• Maintain product knowledge: keeping up to date specifically regarding pharmacology and product market/competition.

• Compliance and pharma –convigilance: Ensuring that promotional activities comply with pharmacy and poison board requirement and collect pharma-convigilance information and provide to the line manager. 

1st SEPTEMBER– 20th December 2018 -Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) HIV/AIDS LABORATORY

Position-Volunteer

Assigned with various duties including.

• Receiving and soughting of various samples (dry blood sports, frozen plasma sample and whole blood) brought in the lab. Logging of this samples in computers and assigning each   sample a laboratory number.

• Cutting of dry blood sports (DBS) in a safety cabinet ready for extraction of HIV virus.

•  Preparation of samples and extraction reagents including Micro particles, M lysis, wash 1, Wash 2 and elution buffer and controls ready for extraction process.

• Loading of samples and extraction reagents in Abbort m200rt machine ready for extraction process to start.

• Transferring of the extracted sample containg 96 well plate to a real time PCR to run and give results which are interpreted accordingly.

1st MAY -30th JUNE 2017: Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI-Nairobi)

Position – Attaché.

Performed various research techniques in the following labs I was attached.

1. Viral Hemorrhagic Fever (VHF) Lab.

• Culturing and sub-culturing of viruses in mosquitoes’ cells and observation of cytopathic effect (CPE), extraction of RNA using QIAMP R kit of various viruses causing hemorrhagic fevers including yellow fever causing virus and Dengue virus, running conventional PCR, gel electrophoresis and observation of gel bands in a uv photo illuminator and Performing ELISA tests.

1. Tissue culture lab.

• Preparation of medium for cell culturing, Cell culturing, sub-culturing and observation of confluent cell monolayer. Cryopreserving of cultured cells in liquid nitrogen and freeze thawing of cells.

1. Viral Hepatitis lab

• Performing rapid diagnostic tests for hepatitis B, screening for HBSAG using KEMRI hepcell protocol and carrying out its confirmatory test for the positive samples.

1. Acute Respiratory Infections and Influenza Surveillance Lab.

• Extraction of RNA from viruses causing acute respiratory infections such as influenza viruses, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and Adenoviruses, preparing reaction 96 well PCR plate by putting the respective components in wells, running of Real time PCR and observation of the amplification curves to judge presence of respiratory infections. Execution of immune fluorescence assay and Performed fluorescent DNA sequencing.
• Data recording of samples received in lab (DBS, whole blood or plasma) and assigning each sample a laboratory number, Preparation of sample and RNA extraction and PCR components for automatic extraction and amplification by the Abbort m2000rt machine and reading PCR results and interpretation. 

1. HIV lab.
2. Polio Lab

• Isolation of polio virus in stool samples, inoculation of test samples in cell lines, culturing and observation for positive CPE of Polio virus in the given samples.
