About kent ewing:
I am an experienced international school teacher who has worked in several different countries and headed departments in four different schools, the International School of Kenya, Hong Kong International School, Colegio Alberto Einstein of Quito and in my current position at Burundi American International Academy. I am well versed in in the IB and MYP systems as well as in the American Advanced Placement program. I was hired in Burundi in 2023 to bolster BAIA's high school English language and literture curriculum at all grade levels and to implement AP courses in Grade 11 and 12. My contract in Burundi ends in June of 2025, which is when I would be available for other employment.
Experience
My experience as an international educator began at the International School of Kenya in 1986 but has also taken me to Hong Kong, South Korea and Ecuador. I have taught English to students of widely different ability levels, first-language and second-language, in middle school and high school, in both the MYP/IB and the AP systems. I was also department head in three of the previous schools for which I have worked and currently serve in that role at Burundi American International Academy.
Education
I received a BA in journalism from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, and an MA in English Literature from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. In addition to my experience in international education, for many years I also worked as a free-lance journalist in Hong Kong, writing for the South China Morning Post, Hong Kong Standard, Asia Times and Hong Free Press. Just Google my name to find all of these articles online. Also, in addition to the English Language and Literature courses I am currently teaching at Burundi American International Academy, I have created and teach a course called Media Studies, which examines the challenges faced by today's journalists, including disinformation, misinformation and AI.
